| Quote ="Mrs Barista"What an odd situation. Rovers stop paying Mason weeks ago, thereby, you would imagine, invalidating his contract. Rovers then release Mason so as of yesterday he is a free agent. Mason then signs for Toulon (presumably) and Rovers still get a huge wedge of cash. Great stuff.'"
Fwiw I think rovers need to learn of this personally I can't see them getting any monies all willie will say is u de registered me although he did have talks with Toulon while playing for rovers who knows, it might teach rovers not to go for the big stars at all, who knows what deal if any has been struck all I know is we haven't missed Mason the last few games he ain't played, good luck to him.

He is allowed to move but has to have permission. I Know Willie Mason from his time here and he knows he is in the wrong and he also regrets his actions but he and the club are happy as Rovers will recieve a lump of money from France that will make it quite a profitable deal after all.
Willie is a nice guy but he sometimes does not think before he acts. Wish him well with his move.'"
Why would Toulon pay Rovers for a player they have released?

I suspect it's all about the money to him anyway. ATEOTD if he loved playing the game so much he would have agreed to go to Bradford on loan, or is that been harsh?

Had a text last night telling me that loaded willie had put £1m into the club as he had done nothing in East Hull either
I've had a quick look through the threads and in summary what goes around comes around. You completely shafted Hull FC over the Paul Cooke saga, approaching a contracted player (RL findings and view not mine) so this looks a lot like payback to me.
You signed the guy as a quota player, changed the conditions of his move to HKR once you failed to get a Maltese passport and then bent the RL rules to get him over here and playing.
Is Willie Mason to blame, even if the Wails statement of approaching Tool-on was before he left to England, I would suggest NO. He is just ensuring that he had a plan B if the passport didn't arrive, can't blame him for that. Would all this have happened if he arrived before Xmas on an Aussie passport and completed a full pre season and was here for the friendlies, who knows?

This is what happened with Crocker, Eastwood, Bird & Carney. They can be considered something of hard luck stories, though you can reasonably argue that the clubs should have done more research into their backgrounds. With Mason a visa as such wasn't the problem, only the passport it came with so that Hudgell could fiddle the quota system. The RFL needs to hang its head in shame for allowing this to happen by either (a) believing Hudgell's promises or (b) caving in to any threats he made [delete as appropriate.'"

How can you possibly assume this? What evidence is there? This current trend of Rovers fans blaming Mason on the radio and on messageboards is beyond the pale.
When he did finally speak to Toulon it was after months of manipulative rule-bending (during which Rovers' mismanagement ensured he became involuntarily complicit) which started and ended with him being unable to play the game. Little wonder he had to take matters into his own hands, the situation had become insecure at best, career threatening at worse.
People need to wind their necks in when publicly slating him lest they lose their heads.

WRONG! Paul Cooke was found guilty of approaching Rovers, hence his ban, but don't let the facts get in the way of your post.

whilst most people will agree with the comment ref the club messing up the deal and going round the houses to fit mason in.
by mason doing what he did whilst still under contract he had absolutly no intention of staying ,
no one is saying mason is to blame for the full episode but hes hardly blameless.
yes he jumped through hoops did what was asked off him etc etc ,
but he was still been paid by rovers ,the last thing rovers wanted was for mason to be sat on the side lines not playing and been paid ,
the passport issue is of our own doing and was a massive risk whcih didnt come off, bottom line is we got assurances from external forces stating mason passport would be here "any day" .
he knew the situation and choose to look else were ,his greed came shining through as did our massive gamble.
IMO lessons learned on both partys
HKR will not take the risk with out relevent paper work
Willie will sell his own grandad if the moneys right

Correct. Very funny but entirely unsuccessful efforts to deflect the understandable crushing disappointment in the context of cardboard cutouts, Beckham comparisons, pay to watch him go to the toilet hysteria. When all is said and done, Mason was messed about due to Rovers inept management team. He showed willing in going to Tonga, he came across in very good shape. Morgan spoke glowingly of how well he trained. He played every game possible.
I look forward to evidence that he was talking to Toulon long before he was de-registered as there was no talk of it before David Burns broke the story and it's a new and highly convenient, unproven slur on Mason at a time of embarrassment for Rovers. Even if it were true, Hudgell was very clear that all parties knew Dobson would be re-registered as soon as fit and Mason was well aware of it. In this context and with no passport in sight, Mason's actions in exploring options are entirely understandable. I find it very odd that the HDM are reporting that the Toulon stories were doing the rounds before Mason arrived. It's simply not true and very poor by the HDM.

he was offered the chance to play for a well established super league team on loan,
his "understandable actions " as you put it only came into play when he realised that bigger money was elsewere.
