| Back in Newcastle (which I don't mind) But is it just me who see this the RFL/super league/SKY just tacking the pee out of supporters. why have we to have a third derby game again (queue 6 easy points from the dark side) with the possibility of two or three more if we do well & draw them in the cup. Apart from the fact it puts the league out of true it takes away the interest in derby games as they are becoming common place. I am not against the concept but why can't they just say that that day is the last 16 of the cup? that still gives 8 games over 2 days & won't affect the home away rotation of super league. A bonus is that lower division gets a chance gets of a shot at the big day.

Absolutely agree. I posted much the same on the Hull forum. I'm all for expanding the game but this concept is dying death and the format has to be changed or gotten rid of.
They have chosen the Hull derby as they know both Clubs probably bring the most fans. On that basis why aren't Wigan Playing Saints? Speak to any of their fans and they will tell you it's the biggest Derby in Super League.

| The last game of the weekend should be Cas v Leeds. A repeat of the grand final, great for the armchair fans and the supporters with the shortest journey home.

The fact that Wigan and Saints finished the 'regular' season in 6th and 7th makes the decision for them not to play each other all the more baffling.

| According to league express. Rovers specifically asked the rfl that they did not play Hull.
Partly because of the growing dissatisfaction of the over saturation of the Derby. Which is being voiced byou both sets of fans. But the RFL turned it down.

Why wouldn't they, I suppose? MW makes the RFL a load of money.
It's a shame really, as MW or "On the Road" games, if done correctly could be great for the game. But to do that, the RFL need to invest in local marketing & development officers, ensuring that the event is attended by as many locals as possible, and some sort of lasting legacy is left behind at grassroots level.
But, Magic Weekend's sole purpose now is to make money for the RFL, nothing more. They've literally created an extra round of fixtures to fill their pockets.
Regards to the Derby, I fully agree with Rovers' view on it.

Agree. I personally would like to see instead of it all being held at one place. A weekend we're games are held at different non RL grounds. (I expect Cas v Leeds in Middlesbrough etc). Which as you say if done rightly can attract big crowds promote the sport and hopefully get young kids playing it.
In my opinion Magic Weekend has pretty much had its day now. And as you say is now all about money for the rfl. As is international rugby nowadays.
Craven park sorry if its old news. I don't live in Hull, so don't get the Hull daily Mail.

Amazingly, using the web site has actually made the experience worse.

| Just for clarification......Rovers keep the entire proceeds of all Magic Weekend ticket sales made through the club.
As do all the clubs. The decision to go again with the Hull derby was not made for the financial gain of the RFL.
Hull FC did not request that there should be no Hull derby so you can't please everyone.
Hull KR v Widnes? Not going to excite too many people surely.

Oh I don’t know, last time it was played there were a few excited folk near me.
As for MW, I’d be happy for any fixture but the one we got. It’s been done to death and 1 year off wasn’t nearly long enough.

| A radical approach to the saturation of derby's is for the fanbase to say enough is enough by not attending Magic and the pre-season cashcow.
I certainly won't be going and haven't been to the 'friendly' for three years.

It makes sense for Hull and rovers to play a preseason game. Timings / travel etc are cut down. That said, I don' attend pre season friendlies as there is simply nothing in it for the fan other then to see a glorified training session. Simple answer is not to go.
Magic is a competitive league game, no problem with this, but i the RFL want to make it a genuine spectacle then they should have 1v2, 3v4 etc from the previous seasons standings to in theory get two equally matched teams.

What's the point in trying level it out when the very concept of Magic Weekend and the 23rd fixture casts do over how fair the league fixtures are.
Why should Hull have to play Saints 3 times, and Warrington play Widnes 3 times? With MW in it's current guise offering 2 league points, it's always going to be unfair whatever fixtures are played.
