It appears since there return from London our neighbours appear to want to start debates comparing the two Hull clubs.

This is becoming a little tedious as when i want to read about thoughts on new signings, next season, reviews of this season they are all reduced to an almost purile point scoring initiated by the same 4-5 non Rovers fans. Plus I think the content is about as funny as a date with a randy Giant Haystacks.



Can we have this thread to do all this? Personally I don't think Hull are a good yard stick. If terrible under achievement is your goal then this is the club to look at. Hull are the Newcastle United of RL. Their fans have high expectations and tell everyone what a massive club they are then they fail to deliver.

Rovers should look at other clubs who over achieve and try and match what they are doing.

Imo no! we should aim higher than them we should not compare nor justify ourselves to them. We do have to improve medical and training facilities for the team and ring fence our up and coming talent as this is the future of club. I would rather compare us to huddersfield as a benchmark to aspire to and achieve Success

Couldn't agree more. Huddersfield have sound financial backing it appears. They have however have overchieved in Superleague. They have brought through some exciting three quarters who have made the national squad and made sound and successful overseas signings. They have bought well from Superleague clubs, Ferres, Brough, Robinson etc. (who let Brough go? That was a sound idea his form and career has nosedived since he went to Huddersfield) and now seem well set with an English coach who has a league winning first season behind him.

They appear to have had their acadamy working well pretty quickly. Rovers should be looking at how they have gone about this. I appreciate they rent a ready made ground and I think Rovers board have had to juggle re-developing Craven Park. The issues with the North stand this season highlighting what a resource and time consuming issue this has been since Rovers have tried and successfully got back in Superleague.

Given Rovers relatively short period in Superleague they should get some credit in out performing more established teams like Wakefield Bardford Salford Castleford London and even Hull regularly. Given the disappointing end to the season this should be put in perspective over the long term. The challenge now is how to build on this.

Hull are a struggling mid table club , same as we are.
Your comparison with NUFC hits the nail on the head , a big club in their own fans minds only.

I agree. But I don't think we should compare with Hull. Their model is one of gross underachievement and a terrible culture of arrogance which holds them back. Their last trophy was won with a predominantly young English team which could have gone on to compete with the Leeds team they beat over the next decade. Instead you got LOOK told you we 're great and massive and we've made it.......

They then lose the plot and lose discipline handing the rest of the league that cup winning team-Cooke, Briscoe, Brough, Wheeldon, Carvell etc etc.

Hull is not the model to follow. They barely out perform us despite being an ever present in Superleague and no issue with their facilities (I begrudge paying my Council Tax to keep them in their home especially when they add insult to injury by not bothering to turn up to watch their team in the play offs!). Presently they are a little ahead of us despite having the whole of Hull's amateur rugby system to cherry pick from before Rovers return to Superleague.

We should stay well clear and look to the Giants, Wigan and Leeds to see how they have developed their clubs.

Being bigger than Rovers does not make you a big club.
Hull are dwarfed by Wigan , saints , Leeds and Wire.
Newcastle are bigger than Sunderland , but are dwarfed by Man utd , Man city , Liverpool , Arsenal , Chelsea and Spurs .
So no , NUFC and Hull fc are not big clubs.

Swift and painless unlike watching Hull defend their way slowly out of the playoffs.

I think in the short term, Rovers aspirations should be to use Hull as a yardstick. Better, better youth, more success, better financially. could learn something. Then admittedly once there, look to kick on past. Pointless trying to limp before you can crawl.

Although they're likely to remain a common comparator, in a 'yeah, how is that any different to when you...' kind of way, because the rivalry makes it harder to make dispassionate judgements, they're actually a very poor yardstick IMO. Plus our situations are different in some ways, as they are from every other club.

Where it makes a bit of sense, is when it reflects the local economic situation. Their ticket sales were not quite as good as they'd have liked, and nor were ours - same underlying cause in large part.

We do use hull as a yardstick,we plod on under our own steam as best we can,and if we get in dire straits we can always play our "joker" and merge with another club.!! Ring any bells.!
