This draw has captured the imagination for me. Still mentally scared about the third round draw after the Queens fixture, (can’t shake it off) and I dread the draw every year. I got to thinking about this Game against the Army and just wondered if the club was planning anything (I can’t remember a game against a Service team in our History) Given the clubs very sound stance in remembering local army lads who have paid the ultimate price for Queen and Country, is this a chance to get everyone together and travel down to Aldershot. I suppose it is too short a notice for Ben Parkinson and his Family (given their commitments) but Carl Hall has looked after our fallen service personal Families in a very positive way and it would be IMO a chance to once again remember. As I say just a thought, but I would be more than willing to chip in towards the cost. May be too much to ask for free travel given the Rovers commitment towards the Yeovil fixture just gone, but a cheeky word with Mr Baldwin may help.

Hello, an Aldershot based RL fan here.

A heads up re your trip down south. The stadium has a modern stand that should cope with the whole crowd. The rest is uncovered standing. The stadium is home to the Army RU and RL teams so the pitch is usually good. One oddity, it is usually agreed you are walked 10 yards up the pitch rather than kick penalties out on the far side as balls would disappear into secure army facilities and not return in a hurry.

If driving follow the signs for the Military Museum. If you have followed signs for Aldershot Military Town the stadium is on the left past the military museum. (The museum is a few mins walk if anyone wants to keep kids busy pre match. There is an admission fee but not much.)

Parking is likely to be for officials only. If the weather is good they normally allow parking on the old polo pitches opposite. Worst case drive past the stadium, past the athletics stadium and turn left at the traffic lights, there is a free car park.

Be aware the ground is 20 or so mins walk from Aldershot town centre with little around it. The army often arrange a beer tent and burger bar, or similar so you may want to check what is announced. There is a clubhouse but that may be officials only. An army band may well show up, they usually do for big matches.

Real ale fans with an understanding driver may want to try The Prince of Wales in Farnborough, White Hart in Tongham or White Lion in Aldershot.

Last time the Army reached the 3rd round it was admission by donation to an army charity as someone found a by-law blocking charging for admission. The Army RU team have sold tickets for a game since so that may have changed.

On the pitch, well I expect you to win with a lot to spare tbh. The Army team are currently scattered around the world so don't train or play together very often.
