Quote ="Double Movement"This topic has nothing to do with Sunday's game but I was replying to the comments made. Perhaps it needs shifting to a separate thread?
In reply to Geoff's comments, "Why can't Super League attract a sponsor?"
I don't believe there is all that much wrong with the game itself. It's fast, entertaining, and in my opinion is so much better to watch than football.
The problem is the structure of the game. The structure detracts from the product when it should be adding to it.
The game can't attract a sponsor because:
1) There is no excitement and tension created by promotion and relegation
2) We have a Super League season that is diminished in value because the main prize is winning the Grand Final, as opposed to winning the league. The league season is pretty much a "warm up" for the Grand Finals.
Leeds have shown what a mockery the league season is: Finish fifth after playing every team twice, but then be crowned as Champions by winning the play-offs.
This type of arrangement must be very off-putting to sponsors.
What sort of image would football have if 5th placed Tottenham won a play-off in the Premiership, and were crowned Champions ahead of Man Utd?
Imagine how many meaningless games there would be in the football Premiership without promotion and relegation. Every Premiership football match counts for something. That can't be said in Super League.
These are some of the reasons why the game can't attract a sponsor, Geoff. The structure of the game is wrong.
I suspect that the RFL recognise this and the reason for restructuring is to make the game more attractive to sponsors.'"
Might be off topic but a top post anyway. maybe the RFL need to take note!!!!
