Doncaster Rugby League Club is delighted to announce that they have joined up with the Balby Academy of Sport to create an under 18's side.
The new team will effectively become the club's second team and will be called the ‘Balby Dons' who will be based at the sports college. The playing squad will train and play within the college's excellent sports facilities and the Dons team of coaches will provide first class training.
The Dons already has a strong link with the college through their successful rugby league academy programme which provides the combination of education and the development of performance in the sport.
The academy was originally set up to produce the best rugby league players from Doncaster and the South Yorkshire area who could eventually progress to play for the Dons. The same will be applied to the under 18's as Dons' head coach Tony Miller explains:
"This is a fantastic opportunity for the young rugby league players of Doncaster to get involved with the club through our excellent partnership with Balby Academy of Sport.
"As a club we are working very hard to raise the awareness of rugby league in Doncaster and the surrounding area. We really want to build on last season's success and would like to have local players playing for their local team.
"We are therefore on the look-out for fresh, young and exciting talent who has the appetite to succeed and the aspirations to become a regular first team player for the Dons.
"We really believe Doncaster has some tremendous young rugby league talent out there who could one day step out on to the Keepmoat Stadium pitch wearing a Dons shirt.
"I'd like to take the opportunity to thank Martin Dye and the Academy for their kind support and backing to make this partnership become a reality.
"I would urge all young players, who are eligible to play for this new team, to attend the training sessions, train hard and give it your best shot."
The first training session will be held at the college on Friday 22nd February between 6pm and 7pm. Please contact Neil Barron on 07951 892656 or Lee Needham on 07525 346951 for more information.
The new team is also looking for a number of volunteers to help them out at training and on match days. Please contact Neil or Lee on the above numbers or email Neil at
