Highlights from the BH weekend ...

Leeds Midnight Bell (Gatehouse, Doncaster) ... always a favourite.
Saltaire Pride (Gatehouse, Doncaster) ... very enjoyable.
Stancill India Ruby Ale 4.0% (Angel, Doncaster) ... another winner from the South Yorks brewery.
Twisted Oak Old Barn 4.5% (Fat Cat, Sheffield) ... best of the weekend.
Acorn Barnsley Bitter (Kelham Island Tavern, Sheffield) ... another which never disappoints.
Sadlers One Stop Hop 4.3% (Tut n Shive, Doncaster) ... pushed the Old Barn very close.

Hydes Finest 4.5% in the Tut yesterday evening was very nice.

Saltaire Boathouse Best 4.3% in the Old Angel yesterday ... Amber & malty ... very nice.

Doncaster Brewery Tap had an excellent ale from Browns Ales in Chesterfield. Gladiator at 4.2%, a malty chestnut bitter.

Also had a pint of the always enjoyable Ringneck Amber Ale in the Gatehouse.

A much improved crawl to be had around Donny these days. We did The Corner Pin, Gatehouse, Old Angel, Plough and Tut'n'Shive. Special mention yo The Corner Pin. Good ale good atmosphere, the food looked good and a pleasant and knowledgeable landlord. You have got a little gem there.

Mauldons Black Adder 5.3% in the Gatehouse

Kalamazoo Amber Ale 5.8% in the Old Angel currently is worth a try.

Brewed by John Mallett (of Bell's Brewery, Michigan USA) at Wadworth Brewery specially for Wetherspoons.

Doncaster Brewery Tap had a very nice guest beer yesterday evening in the shape of Lincoln Green's Quarterstaff 5.0%, a Stout with Blackcurrant flavouring.

Not a brewery I knew anything about but a little research revealed that the Hucknall (Notts) based brewery have a range of Robin Hood themed ales such as Hood, Marion, Tuck & Scarlett.

Talking of the Doncaster Brewery Tap, a Beer Festival will be taking place between Wednesday 10 & Saturday 13 September 2014 with the emphasis on local breweries.

First time for a good while that I have been in the Doncaster Tap and what a really lovely set up they have there. Welcoming with complimentary snacks (Glyn leave some Pork Pie for other folk) They had a really excellent hand pulled Cider on and their own brewed ales were going down a treat with the customers. Loved it and the place gets tops marks from me.

Finally visited their Hop along with Fernandes Brewery Tap, Six Chimneys, Black Rock, Harrys Bar, the Old Print Works and Henry Boons.

Best ale of the evening ...Leeds Midnight Bell in Harry's although an honourable mention for Kelburn Dark Moor in Black Rock.

Bulls Head ... Hydes Original 3.8%
Golden Fleece ... Brains The Rev James 4.5% & Wadworth 6X 4.3%
Spread Eagle ... JW Lees Game On 4.2%
Saddlers ... Marstons Burton Bitter 3.8%
Lymm Brewery Tap ... Dunham Dark 3.8% & Dunham Porter 5.2%

Best pint ... (unsurprisingly) The Rev James but the Dunham brews both worth a mention.

The Angel had the excellent GK Abbot Reserve available last night. 6.5% so only the one.

Also had a couple of decent pints in Cask Corner, Hop Studio Brewery Porter 4.3% and Dukeries The Duke, a bitter at 4.5%.

Dukeries Gunsmoke 5.5% available in the Gatehouse last night.

Also tried Saltaire Raspberry Blonde 4.0% in the Angel. Not naturally to my taste but fine in moderation.

Doncaster Brewery Tap had available Bullseye Bitter 3.8% from Selby's Jolly Sailor brewery which was very enjoyable.

The Yorkshire Grey had a very nice ale from Cottage Brewing Co available yesterday. Battle of Britain 4.5%, red in colour, malty with fruit and chocolate flavours.

Wolverhampton on Saturday ...

Visited 7 town centre pubs (would have been 8 but the Tap & Spile had no Real Ale).

Lych Gate Tavern & The Posada (both highly recommended).

Best beers;
Norfolk Moongazer 4.0% & Black Country Ales Fireside 5.0% (Lych Gate Tavern)
Inveralmond Brewery Lia Fail 4.7% (Moon Under Water - W'spoons)

Forgive my crude maths Gary but with a saving of about 15-18p a pint at Weatherspoons today I still reckon them or the Govt how you about £12,000.

The Tut this week ... Brighton Bier The Fall Guy (American Red Rye ale) 4.5% ... very enjoyable.

Gatehouse this week ... Coronado Brewing Co Mermaid's Red 5.7% ... equally enjoyable.

Angel this week ... Woodforde's Nelson's Revenge 4.5% ... again, same as above.

St Helens on Saturday evening after the latest shambles at the Macron ...
