It was certainly alive & kicking. Not very adventurous on the ale front though - Landlord, Black Sheep & another I can't remember.

Already am but haven't heard anything for a while. A little concerned that the downturn may have affected start-up, that's all.

| On my travels this weekend and will be visiting the delightful Helter Skelter at Frodsham a 13 minute train ride out of Chester. Apparently, they have a pleasant little separate restaurant upstairs, so will be reporting back next week

The Bears Paw at Frodsham gets a decent write-up in the 2009 GBG.
Dating back to the 17th Century the pub regularly offers six handpull beers.

| Anyone recommend real ale pubs in Slaithwaite and/or Marsden.
I know it's a bit of a sleck from Donny but thought I'd ask.

The Tunnel End Inn is supposed to be great, though I've never been.

The Riverhead Brewery Tap is ace. Might I suggest you visit the Sair Inn at Linthwaite just up the road, as well. Now that is a real real ale pub if Ron Crabtree is still brewing!

| Has anyone else tried the Oakham Attila, which won the Champion Winter Beer of Britain at the CAMRA Manchester Beer Festival last week? I found it to be far too sweet, even for a barley wine with an ABV of 7.5%. There were quite a few of the runners-up that I much prefered. Still, I suppose they can't let Robinsons Old Tom win every year.

Seems to get good reviews wherever you look (including the 2009 GBG) - Definitely one for my list and still run by Ron Crabtree (and Hilary Cooper) by all accounts.

| Tried the new Lloyds bar in Doncaster last night (The Old Angel - formally Yates).
Very disappointed. Plenty of handpumps but only Abbot, Greene King IPA and Pedigree actually available. The service was poor too, only about 30 people downstairs when we walked in (many with drinks already) but well over 5 minutes before we got served. Plenty of staff stocking up and checking glasses, measures etc but only two actually serving.

| Red Hart at Blyth for lunch today. Would thoroughly recommend it - extremely enjoyable.
Only down side was that of the two guest ales, one had sold out and the other was a golden one so ended up settling for Pedigree.
