Disappointed to hear this news. With an injury free season I thought Frankie could do a good job for us.

Very disappointed with this. Showed what we'd been missing once over his injury and looked set for a big season next year.

I thought we needed to retain him and get him some help in the forwards this year. Now we need to replace him and get that help. After the initial optimism I can feel my hope for this season fading unless we make some big signings soon.

Thats a disappointment but if players want to leave there is not a lot you can do. I do not want us in a situation where we have to bribe folk to stay..

So where do we think our squad is at the minute? For me it depends on who we sign next. For my money we need a quality fullback and 2 good wings (or 2 fullbacks 1 wing depending on where we imagine playing rickett) a backup half ( or hooker depending on where we imagine boas playing most) 2 Big props and 3 big backrowers ( although 2 big ones plus Jordie would be good too) just posting since we now know not all the unreleased players will be resigned.

Adam i wouldnt have thought we need 2 good wingers surely Doherty & Ritson plus a back up winger Halliday or Chisholm . Agree about a full back unless Logan is pencilled in.
We should know a little more when we see who are retained .

Thought he might be fullback tbh. Plus I love the strength in depth in centres with Tali Logan and Smeaton. Hope we end up that strong in other positions too.

I believe Jordie is on his way back from down-under so he will probably be announced next week.

I’ve been doing some analysis of the squad:

Current signed up squad = 17 players. I’ve listed the players in the positions they can possibly play in.

Props:
Douglas, Peltier, Spiers, Boyle, and Foster

Hooker:
Carter, Cross, Boas

Second Row:
Foster, England, Wilkinson

Loose Forward:
Wilkinson

Halves:
Beharrell, Chase, Boas, Cross

Wingers:
Doherty, Rickett

Centres:
Smeaton, Tali, Logan, Doherty

Full Back:
Logan, Boas, Doherty

With the likelihood of 4 or 5 players being injured at any one time, a 24-man squad seems a minimum requirement. On that basis we are seven players short of this at the moment.

If we sign Jordie, Chrimes, and Halliday, we will have the wing and centre positions covered along with the loose-forward spot. Jordie could also provide emergency cover in the halves if need be.

We are still short in the forwards. We would need two more props and two more second-rowers. Keiran Dixon could be one of the second-rowers. That would leave three places vacant.

Regarding the full-back position, I’m pretty certain this must be Jack Logan. The reason for my thinking is that Smeaton and Tali are both out-and-out centres and will be amongst the first names on the team sheet. Where would Jack Logan play other than at full-back? He could play on the wing but I doubt it.

Full back cover would be provided by Boas and Doherty.

Who fills the two missing prop places and the second row spot (to replace Frankie) will be key.

Hopefully, there will be three new significant signings to plug these gaps.

Other gaps will also remain if Jordie, Halliday, Chrimes, and Dixon, don’t re-sign.

Anyone seen Jordie since he has been back? Just wondering how is ACL surgery went and how many games will he miss?

Just to throw a curve ball into the mix , with the signing of two class centres, is there a possibility Jason Tali could move up to the second row.

After losing Frankie we seem a little light weight in the pack and Tali would be devastating as a wide runner cutting back on angles.

With his direct running he would be a handful carrying the ball and give us different options in our set up.

I must have subconciously been thinking of London Broncos winger Keiran Dixon!

It has gone quiet from the club at the minute here's hoping we hear about more signings soon. Newcastle released a lot of players recently do we think any would do a job for us?

We certainly need some more beef up front and a larger squad of player.

Ex-Dons prop Alex Rowe was released by Newcastle but I don't realistically see him being an option.

Saw him last week at the T/B game he was still on crutches spoke with Keiran Cross he still has a surgical boot on but said he will be able to do full training soon & will be fit for next season
