Cougars v Dons Preview

Doncaster RLFC turn their attentions to the Kingstone Press Championship this weekend with a trip to Keighley Cougars (3pm kick-off).

This will be Doncaster's final away fixture for three games as they will entertain Sheffield Eagles (Northern Rail Cup), Leigh Centurions and Hunslet Hawks in the coming weeks. Their last home game was on Sunday 5th May when they defeated this week's opponents 32-12.

The Dons have signed winger Dave Scott on a month's loan from fellow Championship side Featherstone Rovers. The Scottish international signed for Featherstone at the end of last season after winning the 2012 Hull KR reserves player of the year award.

He comes in as cover for Dennis Tuffour who is struggling for fitness with a hamstring injury. It is hoped Tuffour will be back in contention for the Northern Rail Cup semi-final at Doncaster Athletics Stadium next Friday night.

Back rower Mike Kelly looks unlikely to make his comeback from injury and Chris Spurr is struggling to make the game due to illness. However, utility forward Grant Edwards is included in the Dons squad after missing the last five games with a neck injury.

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats trio Danny Cowling, Liam Kay and Kyle Trout are available once again on a dual registration basis whilst stand off Paul Cooke is in line to make his 350th career appearance.

Doncaster head coach Tony Miller is expecting a Cougars backlash and said: "I know they had a bit of a touch up from their chairman regarding the performance at York, and Keighley are always pretty good at home.

"I'm expecting a real tough game that will go down to the wire.

"If we can get a win it will give us a bit of breathing space above Keighley, whereas if they win we'll be right back in the mix - it's a massive game for both clubs."

Keighley Cougars player coach Paul March wants a big response from his side following their last defeat to York City Knights. March has a near fully fit squad to choose from and wants to see a different Cougars side against in-form Doncaster.

He said: "The York defeat was our worst performance of the year - we've had two weeks to build up to this game and hopefully there will a positive response.

"We watched Doncaster play Swinton last Thursday after training, and they're playing very well.

"But when we went their earlier this year we put them under pressure for 20 minutes, and we'll be looking to do that for the whole game this week to see what their reaction is."

March will check on fullback Craig Moss in the under-20s on Thursday night, while winger Richie Barnett will return to training from his broken leg next week.
