Gardner to run side ways again?

They can be tougher than you'd like especially as it is our first competitive game of the season. I can't make a prediction because we haven't really seen the team in action properly yet but the amount of times Swinton and Oldham et al have took it to us in this comp tells me not to get too complacent.

Good performance from Gardner last night.. ran forward with pace and strength.

And scored a try.

He made one mistake under the high ball, but otherwise he did well. As did Ford, his decision making coming into the line was excellent last night, and will be a real plus this year. I can see him being our top try scorer by a mile.

Picks very good, as was Dave Allen and Webbo. Everyone else was solid. Plenty of players to come back as well, so far so good.

Sounds like some like Gardner and some don't?

The one thing I will say about Gardner is that if you give him plenty of service he should score at least 25 this season for you.

I'd say that the vocal Gardner bashers are opposition fans like the chap above.

Widnes fans are willing to wait and see what he does in this division and in this team. Last night he looked fairly decent.

The touch kicking was much better last night because the majority where on Webster's good leg unlike the ones I can remember from the friendlies.

I think he saw the message boards to say kick furthur.

Did anyone else think the squad looks noticeably bigger this year? I know the white kit is meant to give that illusion but players like Gannon for example who was pretty lean seems to have bulked up in the off season.
I liked the look of us last night. They played good organised rugby and seemed to have gelled well in the off season. There is already an understanding developing amongst the players and they seemed to enjoy playing alongside eachother. Something which we seriously lacked last season.

The opposition wasn't strong but our youngsters showed up particularly well. Hopefully we'll have a few back for the Barrow game but if we can continue to build on this sort of performance we'll be up there come play off / cup final time.
