Which Widnes fans said we have a good given right to be in Super League? we have everything in place that a modern forward thinking club should have. Barrow are a good club and are continuing to develop at a good pace, they do however lack in quite a few areas. Your club Wakefield are skating on very thin ice and you know it.

Strictly speaking Barrow have achieved little up to now , they have assembled a good playing squad and have increased their attendances from a low starting point on the back of that success , they are still miles behind Widnes on support

The big sticking point is the stadium , and while it is good that they have assets in the form of the current ground , to reach the bare minimum requirements to score a point in the next round of franchises they need at least a 10/15 million pound investment in the stadium , they need to achieve this before may 2011 , basically 18 months from now

Your dreams have been our reality for years. We may not be so high and mighty anymore, but we are still head and shoulders above you in terms of the next application. FWIW you have probably a better squad, and I fancy your chances to go all the way again, but don't let it be forgotten up until last season you were struggling to make ends meet and have a saviour in Des. You can compare that to SOC if you like, but we already have a fanbase in place!

Come back when you have a better stadium, a fanbase to equal the chemics, an academy and youth policy to be proud of and a chariman who isn't a fat gob$h*te.

Widnes have never won the NL/Championship GF...Fact! The club that wins that has the moral right to promotion. Widnes had there chance in SL and at promotion and they just didn't have it in them to compete when it matters.......Fact!

As a passionate believer in P/R I firmly think that Barrow have a moral right to enter SL. As for Leigh/Widnes/Halifax and other set of moaners that haven't won the GF, well hard luck. You should learn to compete on the field and then come back to us!

No one is saying we have a god given right to be there, but in this league, there are few fans dishonest enough not to admit we're the team most ready for a license and a team is getting one whether you like it or not so instead of directing your anger at us direct it at Crufailders who you better hope are going out of business in the next few years because you are paying for them and ultimately they will be the ones staying in at your expense.

We are merely the team probably more than any other in the first two tiers hard done by over the years but I can assure anyone that when their time comes, be it wakefield, be it castleford, be it Salford, those who were sat in their ivory towers throughout this whole process looking down on those fans who were worried about their clubs future and the credibility of the game as a whole will be even more bitter than we ever have been and I will at least enjoy that. Whether it is us promoted or someone else.

Widnes get a fair bit of bad cop off other fans for stuff most didn't say and especially not the club, it's not our MP's that DEMANDED a place in SL or are CEO that THREATNED LEGAL action against Franchise choices... so why act like it is?

As for Barrow... they got a lot of praise from fans but there own just seem to come out with rubbish like this fairly often and annoying people, obv after the NL win they are looking at SL... see Widnes as main rival so do this...

As for Wakey... so long have got away with lying about stadia etc and now the RFL seem to have had enough added money problems getting twitchy bums, again look to Widnes as main SL threat and wallah!

It seems to me that it is you which regard Widnes as the likely club to replace yours in SL, and that’s why you’ve come on here to bitch about our club and it’s fans. Its fans like you who are turning RL fans against each other. You’re a f*****g disgrace.


If they drop Wakey, it will be mostly because of the broken promises they have made to improve their ground. I cannot see the RFL being able to justify replacing Wakefield with Barrow, whose ground (Craven Park) is even worse than Belle Vue. Even if P&R was still in place last season, it is possible that Barrow wouldn’t have been allowed into SL, because of the old minimum standard rules for stadiums. Barrow will not get a licence for 2012. If the Crusaders go bust, they will be replaced by Toulouse or, most likely now, Paris. The RFL have said that a current SL club will be dropped to the Championship and a current Championship club will be promoted to SL – FACT! So don’t blame us for this, we are no more in control of RFL decisions than you are. If you don’t like the situation, stop lashing out at fellow RL supporters and put the blame where it belongs – at the feet of the RFL.

you need to quickly understand the principle behind a successful franchise application (sustainability in sl) as Wakey (won nack all and never will) will be trying to meet the requirements in 2014.

Firstly, this topic was started by a Wakefield fan. Once again people go into 'Barrow is a e club with a dodgy chairman etc etc' routine as a kneejerk reaction which is a shame.

Regarding our stadium, as has been said many, many times before, the club and fans of Barrow RL know far better than anyone that Craven Park needs to be brought up to scratch (we have to visit it every couple of weeks after all!). However, saying it needs £10-£15M spending on it is clearly ridiculous. The Halliwell Jones only cost £6.5M and that was a brand new site and stadium. The major areas to concentrate on are 1,000 more seats to reach SL requirements, new floodlights (which are imminent I believe), a new-build clubhouse/media centre and terracing re-modelling. The development fund already has more than enough finance to fund new toilets, electronic scoreboard and other smaller projects.

I think £3M would be more than enough (based upon other such developments at football grounds over the past few years). Still a lot of money, but certainly not £15M and certainly not an impossible target based considering the grants/loans that are available for community-based sports projects. Work has been ongoing for almost 2 years in securing funding forthe stadium improvements and a SL-esque infrastructure, so although Barrow's progress has come as a shock to most, it hasn't to those inside the club.

Regarding timescales, when Dens Park (home of Dundee FC) required improvement, Barr Stadium Construction Ltd were charged with the task of removing the existing concrete terraces and the construction of two, 3,000 seater stands. The stands were built in a record time of 82 days for the start of the next Scottish Premier League season.

I know that most other fans are completely writing us off, which I know suits the Barrow club fine. The RFL know how we have progressed and are in regular contact for updates. After all, we would be seen as an 'expansion club' to Super League, but without many of the risks associated to Crusaders etc.

Anyway, who's to say that only 1 new team will enter SL in 2012 ??
