I'd have thought that him quitting as coach (if he has) would only strengthen Gateshead's bid.

Makes our case a whole lot stronger if he goes to Barrow.

Nah, seems a nice fella but you only had to look at Sherlock's blog in the world cup to see there wasnt much training being done.

Makes sense in someways... as a nice guy Steve McCormack always struck me as being someone who could easily be manipulated whether that was from the players or the man holding the reins. You only need to look at the bizarre set-up we had coming into the season this year.

I wouldn't be surprised if he isn't sworn in and made to take the oath of allegiance to His Royal Majesty Des Johnston in the near future!

I personally would have applauded him for walking up to you, head butting you to the ground then farting in your face before wiping his ar$e on your Widnes scarf.

Dear Thunder fans and friends,

Today has seen the departure of our coach due to the uncertainty surrounding the future of Thunder with the present benefactor. This departure was for the right reasons and I for one wish Steve a happy future. There was a planned meeting on Friday that Steve was to attend as there was some hope that the club could go forward with the RFL's approval. Rod indicated that such approval could take many weeks and having regard to that fact Steve left the club to pursue his chosen career elsewhere.

At the meeting of the shareholders the other week when Jenson Button Ltd and Arion decided not to honour their commitment to the club and failed to pay over the 120k we had been waiting for for the past 18 months or so. I as everyone knows have been funding the club during that time with only one month this season that did not require a substantial input to pay staff and players wages. Clearly without any assistance this situation can not continue. I was and are only a 20% shareholder in this business with a debt to me of many thousands.

I have decided that I cannot continue funding this club and have therefore withdrawn any financial assistance to it. It would take many weeks to reform and set up a new company that would still require a high level of funding. If anyone wants to take up the Thunder baton and move it on with a new company then they have my complete blessing. Perhaps the thunder storm might link up with others to move the name on.


We have made some great friends in the North East over these past 5 years and we wish you all the best for the future.

I'll admit I wasn't a fan of the way Gateshead were spending beyond their means (they're a club who have confirmed this division is not an even playing field) but I am rather sad about this. Their fans don't deserve it and the progress the club has been making will be halted. And even though McCormack was not the answer for us I've always hoped the best for him and Gateshead has been further misfortune for him.

Bad times for many here.

It would seem the house of cards that is sub SL RL is starting to fall all around , not good news for anybody , perhaps only yourselves are truly on solid, ish ground

With other clubs rumoured to be ' rocking ' we could see some restructuring happening 2011 if not next season

They should start by restructuring the rfl and kicking out all the s at the top of it.

I totallt agree starting with the hetheringtons, lewis and wood. How Widnes never got a franchise last time is incredulous. Hopefully justice will be done next time and you will be in (instead of FC
