WIDNES Vikings supporters have shown their passion for the club by quickly snapping up season tickets for next season.

More than 1,600 fans bought season tickets in September during the Club’s ‘Early Bird’ promotion.

Following consultation with their supporters, the Vikings have reverted to Sunday afternoon fixtures at Stobart Stadium Halton and have been overwhelmed at the level of support shown by the Widnes faithful.

Chief executive Alex Bonney said: “Given the fact that during the month of September fans had to pay for two home play-off games, to achieve this number of sales is testament to the desire for rugby league in the borough and beyond.

“We have yet to analyse the number of new purchasers for 2010 but during September, we were aware of fans buying season tickets who hadn’t done so for the 2009 season.

“In fact, we have now sold more than 75% of our total for 2009 and with the season not due to kick off for another four months.















“It will be great if we can build on the 2,400 we sold in the 2008 season, the first year Steve O’Connor took over the running of the club.”

Bonney added: “All 2009 season-ticket holders who renewed during the ‘Early Bird’ period will receive a voucher to use in the O’Neill’s store in Widnes town centre. We are currently in discussions with O’Neill’s about the logistics of this operation and will make an announcement about the distribution in due course.

“In the meantime, we are still selling 2010 season tickets with a standard adult ticket now £156, concession £103, junior £54 and family (1 adult and 2 children) £210 and these may be purchased by calling into the club offices or ringing 0151 495 2250.”

looks like an even bigger following for Widnes in 2010.

Great news and with the push for superleague it tremendous.I wont buy one as work shifts but i always make as many as i can go.Hopefully attracted some new fans and i sure once the superleague playoffs finished we will hear more.

This season isnt even finished yet so to get 1,600 already paid for is fantastic.

Sunday afternoon rugby and a team that will heavily feature the next crop of young Widnes stars. It's going to be a good year to consolidate what we already have whilst other teams rush like mad to play catch up.

It's far easier for us to improve our on field performances a bit considering we really weren't that far away from you in the end (especially considering we gave you all a head start).. where are you going to find all those new fans you need, a couple of youth teams and everything else before you get anywhere near where we are.

What were your attendances in the end considering how well you did this year?? amazing...

Nice bit of investment in youth you have there with Stanley 'Stonehenge' Gene joining the team.. are there enough dimly lit places in Halifax where you can meet to pay these players.

The youth System: getting set up again next year as it made not a jot of difference having it last season aslong as we have it when it matters.

the fan base: has been steadily increasing over the season and hopefully the grand final where we will be taking more than usual if we play well infront of the new fans then they might stick around and boost our attendances more next year.

what you talking about Stanley Gene for i bet you wish you had a young vibrant 22 year old on your books



we already have all the onfeild abilities already set up fro next year to make another challenge on finishing above you.

Congradulations though on selling that many you certainly set the benchmark on fans, now you need to get a few signings to make yourself a more competitive side on the feild.

I'm not sure that just having a youth system gets you many points for a licence, it the actually bringing players through that counts. Now I know you have a couple of youngsters but I think the RFL are looking for more like 7. I would hope that the RFL would look at things a bit more closely than just being told "look we've got a youth set-up now too".

Well done for getting to the final though, IMO we certainly do have a lot of work to catch up on the field.

Just out of curiosity what cap are you working to next year??. Is it £300K ot £400k??

Widnes must be concerned that by the nett headcount reduction, but I am sure there will be some excellent signings announced shortly.

i thought the cap was getting cut from 400k to 300k for all championship clubs.

from what i have heard coming out of the club we are supposedly only working at 250k at the minute. whether you beleive that or not is up to you.

Let's hope our appearance in a final for 20 years gets some of our old supporters to return. Your level of support is the envy of every club in the championship, and the levels we all measure ourselves against.

Havn't you heard now the five player dual registration system in coming in that they will soon be Warrington's feeder club.

Id prefer Warrington to Huddersfield

It is but if your revenue breaks £1million you can spend upto £400K.

It only gets them one point.

Oh and the Super League salery cap states that every team has to have 7 home grown players and from what i've heard this is going to change when the next lot of licences are awarded.

From 2012 the 7 home grown players have to have come through your own youth system and they have to play a percentage of the matches that the club is involved in that season.
