| Gentleman, lets get one thing very clear.
The dual reg system was never intended to benefit your club or any other non SL club.
It is a vehicle for increasing the number of young players SL clubs can contract, thus bypassing the traditional development process of players starting at Champ1 or Championship clubs. You are just paying his wages until they decide to do something else with him, like send him to Cas to get improved development.
We had Mossop on loan last year, he wanted to extend his loan deal but Wigan recalled him as they had an approach from Hudds to take him on loan. The players opinion counts for nothing, they go where they are told, the club loaning (or "dualling"icon_wink.gif the player has even fewer rights and the SL club couldn't give a toss because all they care about is themselves.
Get used to it as it will no doubt happen again and to all clubs making use of the dual reg system.

| I don't disagree with you for a minute ONS. What I'm getting at is did/do the lower league clubs know this, if they do, why don't they let their fans know that the player can be carted off pretty much where and when the parent club fancies.
I feel sorry for Owen/Cas but it begs the question as to why a Superleague club has no other player deemed good enough coming through. I know part of the reason we got Ainscough in the first place was because we had long term injuries to our first choice wingers (one of whom incidentally is a very good product of our youth system) but I'd expect SL clubs to have strength in depth enough to cope with one injury at least .

| If this is the case with dual contract players, then i do not want another. We should sign Ben Davies on a season long loan, and hopefully no other club will want farrell.Maybe with the release of ainscough, we can get another player later in the season? We will be fine soon with flynn and gaskell back.Think flynn only a week or 2 away from playing.

Looks like he'll be in balck & white on sunday!
Wigan clearly see it has beneficial for him playing regualry for us rather than taking out for odd games, which is good to see!'"
All that says is that he isn't in Wigan's squad for the next game. If its VM's source is correct and Cas want him, he's gone. We haven't made use of the system to date and I hope we don't, 4 players is 23.5% of your team that can be recalled on 24hrs notice! no thanks. I have no issues with other teams making use of it, for the reasons just mentioned , but I do have an issue with the rather disrespectful nature of the agreement.

If this is the case i do not want another dual contract player. It a joke to be honest, and now i wished owen did not get injured.Say another superleague team such as salford fancy farrell on loan? This is a big joke and we have fallen for this crap agreement.

| Surely there must be a clause were we get something back for Wigan cancelling... financial etc? Asyou know for a fact that the SL club will do if we wanted to cancel the deal!

| On Cas site that he has signed for them on month's loan... let's be honest we have been massively used now as surely he can't be contracted to 3 sides so in essence the dual reg has been broke by Wigan!

| What a joke this rule is and the way the RFL are running/ruining the game. Whats the point of having signed a dual Reg player only for his club to recall him and send him on loan elsewhere! Surely the RFL would be better saying any Dual Reg player has to stay eitgher at his Championship club OR his SL Club. He cant be recalled and then loaned elsewhere unless for a very good personal reason. I hope and doubt this will cause to many problems for Widnes now. But had this happened when Widnes were due to play Fax or Barrow then it could see Widnes plans all in a mess! Crazy

What a load of c--p.
Just shows you can more or less do what you want when you are one of the chosen few in sooper dooper league just to get away with beating the salary cap.
The way the powers that are run our game run roughshod is driving people away. What with the Welsh carry on paying Nobles and Harris`s wages, withholding prize money to teams they wish to persecute the lot of them.

| I am pretty certain that the SL side can do as it pleases regarding termination of both dual registrations and loans.
I have always viewed the dual contract system with scepticism and considered it designed to exploit Championship clubs by promising us the crumbs from the SL table.
Thsi is a clear indication of the Super League Europe and the RFL's opinion of Championship clubs as second class citizens. Not very nice is it.

| so can he return to you after the month or not, as i understood the dual reg as only being able to have 4, and also i am sure even if he did not return widnes could not select a replacement as all 4 are signed dual reg players thus using there allocation, only wondering as we (LEIGH)have also used all 4 slots.and the same could happen to us mitchell, blyth, mcarthy (wire) emmett (saints)

| I can fully understand why Wigan would want Ainscough to go to Castleford and gain some SL experience. I can understand, due to Richard Owen’s injury, why Cas would ask if they could loan Ainscough. It’s best for all concerned – except Widnes.
Whilst we cannot argue that we have not had some benefit from his brief sojourn here, it does sort of make a complete mockery of the Dual-Contract system and, indeed, the registration system within RL. We now have a player that is registered with 3 clubs, and this has happened within the space of a month!
Basically the RFL, by giving no protection whatsoever to Championship clubs in DR contracts, are telling us that we are not important in the slightest and that we will always be the beggars and never the choosers. It’s a pity that this didn’t come a few weeks later, when we have our own players back. The only saving grace in all this is the fact that we actually have a couple of good ‘uns waiting in the wings (no pun intended). If we were totally reliant on this DC player, as some clubs will be with some of their DR players, it could have had a major impact on our season.
I’m not too sure if I’d like to continue with Dual-Reg players next season. I think I’d rather just stick with the loan system in order to cover any injuries. Hopefully this is the deathnell for the Dual-Reg system.
Finally, I’d like to say thank you and good luck to Shaun Ainscough.

| If this deal has been done with the blessing of your BoD then fair enough.
If not, then your BoD ought to send the rest of the dual purpose players back to Wigan
and tell them to F off and find some other mugs.

| feel for widnes here.
the dual registration rule has now shown that its all in favour of SL. any SL team can now watch the players in the championship and then go to club and take them on loan if doing well.

| But a club could always activate a clause in a loan contract to recall their player any time anyway, couldn't they? Isn't that what happened when we had Kopczack from those losers at Odsal? I'm not sure whether having a group of players that doesn't train with the club they represent (temporarily or not) is such a good thing though.

Thats a stupid idea, Ainscough was always the most likely to be called back and i know whats happened isnt ideal but it' s up to Wigan what they do. Farrell and Davies wont be going anywhere, Wigan have a load of forwards and they are safe at Widnes barring any major injury crisis.
Paddy Flynn is also not far from a return.

That's right, VM.
It doesn't really affect us the same way it would a Championship club without a full academy set up. Like I said in my last post in this thread, some clubs would be far more dependant on their Duel-Reg players than we are, and that would be nearly every other club. We have Flynn, Thompson, Yates, and Crompton who could replace Ainscough and Gaskell later on in the season.
I think the rest of the Championship clubs may think twice before signing DR players after this, because they will lack the options we have.
It’s the greater significance for the Dual-Reg system as a whole this situation has put in doubt, rather than it being a disaster for Widnes.
