After a few comments I saw yesterday, got me wondering.

If you are a fan, that doesn't go to games anymore, what would it take to get you back? Alternatively, what do you think would attract new fans, bring back those who don't go anymore.

Is it's as simple as a winning side?
Is it a winning side that plays entertaining rugby (as it is supposed to be an entertainment sport)
Would it be a case of lowering tickets sales to bring in more affordability, meaning more can come to games?
Is it a certain day that would get more fans back, for example a Sunday game?
Would making more of a match day experience bring people back. Things happening in and around the ground hours before KO. A new build up to the game? New half time entertainment?

Maybe it's none of those things, more likely it's pretty much all.of those things.
What are your opinions? What would you like to see changed? What would get back or bring in new and old faces back?

Winning definitely, I'd like to see the club reduce the prices slightly, if we have the investment like rumoured lower prices for a couple of years, get people coming back etc.

Whilst some people may point to price, a reduction is not often going to move the dial enough - as unfortunate as that may seem.

Lets assume that tickets cost £25 per game, and we average 10,000 per game - that gives us £250k revenue per match

If we drop the price to £20 per game, our 10,000 gives us £200k revenue, so we would need the £5 price reduction to offset that amount.

That's an additional 2,500 fans in the stadium for each game - do you think that many people will be attracted back in for the cost of £5?

There is also the risk involved in lowering the price, we are throwing away revenue for the potential of attracting more fans, rather than just keeping the revenue we already have.

This is why businesses rarely get cheaper without external influences.

Personally, I love the weekend games, it lets me take my kids and means I don't have to worry about leaving work at a decent time during the week.

I think winning is the main thing we can do, I am certainly seeing more KR fans around this last couple of years compared to before

Degsy (yes that one boo hiss) was on YT podcast the other day saying some good things about this issue and the game as a whole .He made some decent points .

Quite simply a team that wins more then they lose and that 100% guarantee a brand of entertaining rugby. Can't drop prices in this climate and everything else is irrelevant until we get a good product on the field. Basically value on the pitch in return for our money

Lose short term, but gain long term, need to get fans back and interested again.

I was thinking more about season ticket reduction, hopefully a new better stadium deal helps that too.

Only game I've been to this season is the Catalan away game in Feb, I found that once I stopped going, with every game on TV ,I didn't really miss it. For me, the best years at the kcom were 2003-2007, the games had a big game feel about them, the pre match build up, the chanting from the fans, a full east stand right to the edge of the north stand some brilliant players (swain, smith, best, Barnett snr, Horne, cooke, Rayner, yeaman amongst many others)... it felt like over time, whilst still going to games, it was more of a chore than an experience and something you'd look forward to. I still love the club but lots of years of mediocrity on the pitch and dire management off it has made me want to go less and less. It takes me 90 mins to drive to the kcom, so needs to be something worth going for, rather than just something you do out of routine.

It will be interesting to see how the attendances stack up at the end of the season now all games are televised .

Hard to say what impact it'll have, also things like cost of living and on field performance to factor in when comparing attendances

first stage was to stop the half assed performances and hammerings, which has happened to a certain extent. 2nd stage is to be competitive on the pitch and actually start winning games.

Next we need to sort out the marketing and external comms which are poor overall. Bring in a professional to do it not the office junior

Sort out the match day experience which is 20 years out of date

Then get a team that can actually be in with a chance of trophies.

Do that and we will be regularly getting 12k+

Pricing is an issue. I think they put matchday prices up to try and encourage people to buy season passes but has just driven people away. It's £34 a ticket in the east stand - who is going to pay that to watch the rubbish we've been serving up. It's madness

Some interesting points Steve that probably resonate with a few of us. Although we still have season passes and attend every game we can, we've said for a few years that it's the social aspect of meeting up with friends before/after the game that has kept us going. The changes on the horizon couldn't have come at a better time as I suspect we're not the only ones who feel this way.

I've got a pass so I didn't know that. That's shocking should be £25 max. It's the east stand that creates the best atmosphere and the club should be doing all they can to fill it.

A couple of big signings would maybe encourage fans to come back.

Neither did I until I checked on our ticketing website. Over £100 for 3 adults is crazy. Needs to be sub £30

Not too sure about a better stadium deal now the wheels have fallen off at Hull City
Seems the turk is not as wealthy as has been made out
Just had to pay over £1 million for the new pitch and are now struggling to find players to field a competitive team all which will impact the amount of spectators they now get through the door next season and the expected revenue which may be well below expectations

I agree and have said several times the only way this club will bring back lost fans and add fans is not just a winning team but a team that has several star names
Nothing better in R/L than seeing fast elusive running from half back and backs that have the pace and strength to break the line and score from distance.
Albert Kelly,Ratu created excitement as soon as they had the ball.
Certainly wont do that with the signings currently made

I havent been to a game this season and dont give a if people say im not a supporter. Took my ex and kids to the home derby last year, we got tonked, took my kids to the last home game against Leeds last year, we got tonked, kids said it was rubbish, i agreed, club was a joke from top to bottom starting with Pearson. But hopefully hes on his way out now, Thirkills money seems to be getting spent well and we have finally rugby men at the club, im seeing a much improved squad for next year and hopefully improved performances with some grit and on that basis im coming back to the fold next year

I thought Ratu was brilliant. He switched to league at a relatively late age after only playing 7's union. I remember Radford saying how quickly he adapted to the league and was a dream to coach. It was a shame he went back to union as he was a seriously good player and getting better. Probably the fastest winger in SL at the time. I don't think he has had a particularly illustrious career back in union as he has been plagued by injury. Would have loved to have kept him but we can't compete with union as far as money is concerned.

Was our average crowd much better when we had Ratu and Kelky in the same side, didn't we have a record run of defeats in that time?

Really hard to sign star names these days I don't think a club in SL has signed a better and more influential player than Asista.

Despite having a pass I’ve only been to a few home games this season.

I suppose the fact all games are on tv is an influence on that but the 2 biggest factors for me are the stadium and the day of games.

I just don’t enjoy us playing at the mkm anymore. It’s supposed to be a community stadium used equally by both professional teams. But all I see is City pictures and advertisements. It just doesn’t feel like home to me. Get our own stadium and I would be more likely to attend.

I’m also not keen on Saturday afternoon games. Traffic in the city on a Saturday is horrendous and when sat there thinking shall I go my thoughts turn to “I can’t be bothered to sit in traffic when I can watch it on tv”. Especially the way we were playing at the start of the season. Friday night or Sunday afternoon would be better as far as I’m concerned?

I noticed that the east stand has been re-named the Chris Chilton stand. Now I'm not disrespecting him as he was a City legend but if anyone deserves such an honour it is Johnny Whiteley.

I dont know but its players like Kelly and Ratu that provided the excitement.
Asiata is a good signing but as a forward he wont provide the excitement when he receives the ball like they did
You only have to look at Wigan when either French or Field have the ball it lifts the fans.
I know its difficult but its what we need if the club want to attract back lost fans or new fans to the game.

It was actually renamed a couple of years ago although to be be honest I'm not sure anyone really refers to it that way. Even on City's website there are mentions of "the East Stand ticket office", for example. main issue for me is the hideous Tiger print murals on the gate entrances.

It's just the fact that if you are joint tenants albeit in name only, if you acknowledge on of the clubs legendary players by naming a stand after him you should as a matter of respect do the same for the other club as well, especially after what Whiteley has achieved for us and the game as a whole.

I find that Tiger print just looks tacky and embarrassing.

This is a great thread and the feedback from those who really know what's needed, the fans, is brilliant and the club could do a lot worse than to read it. It's certainly not that we don't love the club or have fallen out of love with them because we know that's not possible they are always your club. For me there is another dimension though which is harder to fathom because there is the demeanour apathy and discontent of the public to consider particularly across the sort.

All Clubs are struggling to maintain levels of attendance year on year so what is the first thing the game must address? I would say it is restricting the amount of exposure on TV to get the interested to live games, look at football no games to be televised at 3-00 on a Saturday. So what do we as a game do ?? We change the tv deal to ensure that every game is televised so anyone who is disillusioned with their own clubs performances and efforts can sit at home and watch there.

Once you get out of going and other things take the place of doing that it very often never comes back. I know from experience because with illness, my own issues and family circumstances I don't go to away games anymore when for dozens of seasons I did that every game and miss quite a lot of home ones. I'll always pay for our two season tickets, I'm on my 63 and do it however hard it is, because the club has given me a great life and indeed the best day of my life, because that's my commitment to them and I feel better watching on TV when I do that. But everyone isn't as well placed as I am and I get it exactly when you not only see your team being stripped of its assets year after year but when you consider across the game the state of the officials the play acting and dare I say even at times the cheating that goes on, then its so easy to get disillusioned, and sadly I get that so well. So for me it's much more than just game days and pricing but across the game that certainly aint helping either however I hoped that IMG would be the answer but they have done nothing really besides restructuring the game again!! One things for certain though once you stop attending although you think its just for a short while it is often the end.
