What fans sometimes forget is the amount and effort Albo puts into defence.
We know he is a great attacking threat but look at what he does in defence.

His defence the other night was probably worth 2 tries. Naulago's first came about from him getting in Edwards face and forcing him into an error. Also the try saver on (I think) Williame.

He does miss plenty, but you expect that, he isn't a big guy. Always hits above his weight and never shirks a tackle. In a way I would rather he just looked after himself a bit more, but you have to love the commitment.

Possibly one of the worst games of his career by Edwards I have seen. 2 handling errors gave Hull 12 points plus he threw the strangest of long passes straight into touch with Catalans on the attack. Also his tackling commitment was well below par.

Rovers fans told us his defense was soft when he signed, couldn't be further from the truth. Along with Sneyd and Ellis, he's one of the best signings in our super league era.

Only when you watch him every week you see he is a very hard hitting defender, just opposing fans see that one miss he may come up with in a game and all of a sudden he’s a turnstile. AK is very much the same player he is with you as he was at Rovers. As for wanting to be at the club, he’s had to settle himself as realistically he’s never going to play NRL again, and that’s no dig at him, just fact. His past will always taint his future in this regard.

Before we get to that, obviously you can celebrate who you want, but the rather desperate use of ‘got him on a free’ (as has every club that has signed him following his departure under a cloud from his previous employer), flags it as troll - intentionally, I know. It’s like waving a grey rag at a bullfrog, but you’re undeniably trying.

The key thing to remember is that i’d rather be a sparrow than a snail. No, not that one. A man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest. Or a woman, indeed.

It’s been thin pickings for us, but Albert Kelly gave Rovers fans one of probably the top 10 rugby-related moments of the last couple of years. IMO. As I say, it has been thin pickings. But he did his bit, bless him.

Michael Shenton, that’s right. No matter how many international caps he won or big games he played in, to me he’s just an unfortunate footnote to John Boudebza’s career. Similarly, Kelly is just the drunken abusive oaf who made a few people perform amusing ethical gymnastics on t’internet. And helped us prep for the almost inevitable arrival of our own drunken abusive oaf shortly afterwards. I was more disappointed with the distracting speculation about drugs (‘no, no - focus on the irrefutable misogyny!’) than his performances on the rugby pitch. Those I’ll disregard with bovine equanimity.
