Absolutely devastated to hear this news, he's been instrumental in some great signings for us over recent years and I hope he's still our eyes and ears down under.

Really gutted. What a servant to the club though. Thanks for everything, Motu.

Hopefully he can still work on our recruitment whilst back in NZ. I loved him as a a player - as brave as any player I've ever seen and he'll always be a part of our folklore following cardiff.

I guess this was always on the cards he has been over here for what seems a lifetime agree with the other posters massive loss can only hope he can be kept on in some capacity as our voice or represented down under to help us coax more great developing talent to the club good luck Motu and family in what ever role you find your self always a black and white #Hullfcfamily

It's a big blow to the club but understandable that he wants to be with his extended family.

He's been a real plus for the club and has been behind some very good signings for us. Hopefully he can still influence future signings by recommending the club to players from the NRL.

What's the big news story today, Prince Philip ? No. This one. This made me forget I had a pan on and burnt my Tomato and Herb sauce to a black cinder. Motu has done a fantastic job. He will be missed and I hope our overseas recruitment can continue to be very good. Thanks for the hard work and good luck and best wishes for the future for Motu and his family. Now let's go out and win something again this year !

What qualifications does ellis have for the job? tony did an MBA when he finished playing as he wanted to get into the business management side of the game

I'd still employ him as overseas recruitment officer.

Might have, but would not be a full time job, so maybe could do both.

What a servant he has been to our club. Try at Cardiff, try to take us to Old Trafford, building a squad to win at Wembley. Will be missed.

He'll leave some huge boots to fill for whoever in taken on in the role. Probably our most important signing for 2018.

Tony had a special blend of playing experience (SL, NRL and International), key contacts in both hemispheres and business acumen. A candidate with these qualities doesn't spring to mind immediately, and I don't think we can recruit internally on this one.


It's a shame to see him go and good luck to him. He leaves with two Challenge Cups under his belt and made a big & memorable impact in both wins.

Being highly respected within NRL circles would be a good start.

It's a general managers job. Being a known player in the NRL leaves him a tad short of the relevant skills and experience for the job

Was shocked when I heard this, with hindsight it was on the cards, but still its a tough one for us.
Will be difficult to fill like for like. Wouldn't surprise me if Adam split the role and goes for a General Manager and a Head of Recruitment.
Just Gutted.
But so thankful we had Motu in the role long enough for him to put his cup winning finger print on the team.

just wondering if motu might still be involved with overseas recruitment to some extent, with him being based down there in future and with his contacts in nz and aus. would be useful, and might save the club sending someone halfway round the world to conduct negotiations

Tony had no previous experience of this role.

Remember, we do also have a CEO who runs the company. The GM position is very much focused to the Team. Personally I think its something Ellis COULD be good at. He would have six months of shadowing Tony to gain some practical experience and could use his contacts throughout the game.
