Ched Evans: Steve Bruce questions rape conviction

Hull City boss Steve Bruce has questioned the conviction of rapist Ched Evans and says the footballer should be given a chance to play again.
Evans, who was convicted in 2012, was released from prison in October and saw a move to Oldham collapse this week.
The 26-year-old has been refused the right to appeal, but the Criminal Cases Review Commission is studying his case.
"I might be upsetting people but there is a question of the rape and how he's been convicted by a jury," said Bruce.
"When you look at the evidence, it is there for appeal.
"It has divided opinion of course. When you look at the case in detail - and I don't think most people have really, because they have just seen Ched Evans as a convicted rapist - but when you look at the case and the evidence then certainly Ched has got a case."

I'd be interested to know which university Steve got his law degree from.

Same one Allam got his "DR" from.I'm wondering if City are preparing a bid for him???

To have an opinion on whether he should play football again is fair enough, but he should really steer clear from making comments like that.

Bruce has to offer him a deal now doesn't he? Dropped himself in it a bit. He would just be a massive hypocrite if he didn't give an offer having said he should be given a chance to play again.

Why would he be hated for giving his opinion? People dislike Allam because of his pettiness towards us and the council, not sure it's really comparable.

And having looked at the 'evidence' do you think it was right for him to have an appeal rejected or where those involved in making that decision swayed by all the media whores and other righteous souls..

What "evidence" has Bruce or you looked at then?

Did you both attend the whole trial and listen to every word of testimony or have you read a complete transcript of the case?

The appeal judge at least read the grounds for appeal and when compared to the trial transcript, decided not to allow the appeal. A decision that was then confirmed by a panel of threee appeal court judges.

He's entitled to his opinion but it was unwise of Bruce to publicly comment on this.

Probably about right.

Those rightly demanding free speech for the likes of Paris cartoonists would do well to allow the same right to those who may not agree with mainstream opinion.

I don't paticularly care whether he's guilty or not, any person should be allowed to continue their career once they've served their sentence. The fact he's a footballer shouldn't come in to the equation.

However I do find it bizarre that, given the girls story they could find one party guilty and the other not guilty.

1885, does that mean if your children went to a nursery and one of the staff got convicted of being a paedophile you'd be happy for them to resume looking after your children once they'd served their sentance?

That's illegal. Evans playing football again isn't illegal.
