Is this a sign of the times, supply and demand or a chance to make a quick buck?
hullfc.com/article/23017/lead-ou ... kc-stadium
Quote The packages cost just £150 or £110 for season pass holders and along with the above, other parts of an unforgettable day at the KC Stadium include:
• Passes for the mascot and their guests into the Kingston Suite pre-match.
• A family ticket for four people to see all the action, with extra junior tickets available for just £10.
• Your name and photo in the club’s official match day programme, The 18th Man.
• A picture on the day with the Airlie Bird and your favourite Hull FC player.
• Access to the exclusive players’ lounge after the game for photos and autographs with the full first team squad.
'"
Quote the package includes a free home or away replica shirt'"
Now if you add up the value of the tickets and the shirt i guess its not too bad, although how many people would already have these

12 home games over the season, do we really need £3000 that badly, this makes us look mean, surely a local business would have sponsored the whole thing for the season or something??

| I had a little bet with my mate Rob as to who would reply to this saying it was 'petty' before 12-00 noon, phew nearly lost my £5 there !!!
I agree with Standee and Hutchie I suppose, but I guess when you look what a family of 4 get particularly if it is a special occassion for the mascot like a birthday etc its not that bad, particularly when the family get access to the Kingston Suite a picture and a visit to the players lounge afterwards. The problem is of course we never charged in the past so it is always going to be seen as exploitation, and thats a claim for which i have some sympathy, that said Pearson is slowly working through all the Club making it financially accountable and I guess this is just one instance of that! Its just like charging £1 to watch the Forum, it does'nt make much, but the product at least has a price against which you can balance it's benifit to the organisation. Its hard however to put a price on the good will this opportunity has engendered in the past. Market forces will dictate whether he is right to do this or not I guess, but that said I don't think they will have many problems selling all the games pretty quickly. Sadly its business and for me just another instance of trying to maximise income from game days.

If Pearson has changed everything at the club to the extent that we're down to looking at revenue of £3000 from the mascot then he's made some rapid progress. I agree it's a business, but personally I'd see match day mascot as a "loss leader". As you say, it will depend on market forces, is it first come first served, can you book the match you want in advance?

| I raised a concern through Wilf and FC Voices at the end of last season with regards junior players and their parents being charged full admission price for the kids to play a curtain raiser at KC before the Huddersfield play off game. The responce from Tony Sutton was a swift and reasonable one with regards that particular situation but i am now wondering if it is something we will see rolled out throughout the full season. I hope not and i know that it was something that Wilf was going to continue having dialogue with the Club about.

You could, possibly, argue that we need to charge a nominal fee for insurance purposes, but the kids shouldn't have to pay as they are forming part of the match day experience, adults should pay if they are staying to watch the game.

| where there is want there is the dollar , if parents want it then they will pay for it ....
to be fair the whole package and the chance for the kids to get up close and talk rugby etc with their heros, its not much really for a once in a lifetime experience....
parents out there pay hundreds to fly in one day to lapland to meet some fat old geezer with a beard to make their kids smile and fly back same day so this is a snip in comparison if they want to do it for their kids......
Come on Standee lighten up, surely you would love to put your shorts on and run out holding ogres hand wouldnt you LOL

| Doesn't make it right I know but I think it £199 at Saints and most other Clubs charge, I have had a word with the Club just out of interest and there will be three mascots each game next season two that pay and one that comes from a random draw from the members of a new kids/Airliebird Club that is to be formed. So there will still be some free ones I Guess! It is down to market forces, as we all agree, and I don't say its right however according to the Club Reception several folks have already booked in today! I answer to Standee yes I think you can pick your game.

| Is there an age limit? I have a couple of middle-aged friends who I'd like to see do it and I'd be willing to make a fairly substanial donation to charidee. Full kit though, no jeans.
As said by others, a sign of the times - but experiences you pay for are [ugenerally[/u worth less, IMO, so a tiny bit sad.

Do all three mascots get the same treatment/package, if so then I have no issue with it, you can pay or take the same ride of chance that it has been in the past. I just hope all three kids (and their families) get treated equally, otherwise it'll be like being the kid in Pony trainers when everyone else had Nike (back when Pony were seen for the rubbish brand they were, of course)

I'll see your Gola and raise you Adidas 4 stripe!
In all seriousness tho, they often have the mascot package as an auction item at work (for charidee, admitedly) and usually goes for over £100, which shows there is the market out there. And as they are still having the randomly selected mascots, I don't see an issue with it.
Plus Standee, you said

That will always be the same with the random draw system anyway.

The "free" kid has to stand in a different line, just like those on free school dinners. He also has to run out holding the referee's hand

Totally disagree with that, when we had a team we did a curtain raiser at both clubs, at KR the coaches, kids and 2 parents were accommodated for free I suppose the stance was it was a great opportunity for the youngsters and it was recognized that the parents would want to watch them and who knows they may enjoy watching KR and return as paying customers.
When we played at FC the coaches and kids were free but the parents had to pay full whack even though the game was against Catalans which meant there were lots of seats available. It has nothing to do with insurance as the youngsters are insured with their respective clubs. This was a few years ago so hopefully things will change, youngsters are the future supporters of either clubs.

Well, I guess it depends, people chose to have kids, so they should bare the expense that comes with them, as a non parent that pays a fortune in tax for other people to have kids it just annoys me, I see no reason why parents, or students, get any form of subsidy from the rest of us. But that is a whole different conversation.

There seems to be a lot of fans who find this an insult to 'poorer people' I am sure some of those 'poorer people' will be spending £150 + on computer games etc for Christmas - If people have the money they will treat their kid - I am sure it is not the end of the world - most kids that I know are just happy to go to the game.
