I'd agree but can't see it happening.
I'd take one top prop, a 5/8, a good young prop and a couple of talented youngsters, hopefully a fb aand half, in ft training.

Strange comment about the stand off with a kicking game Jake, if your reflecting on yesterdays game! How many repeat sets did we get? To me what has clearly been missing for a long time is a pacey 6 or a 7 that runs at the line and frightens them to death, pulling defenders around, a Brough, McGuire type player. We DON'T need another organiser! I would like to see Seymour take the line on more but I get the feeling he is playing the way he is told to play being our organiser. Horne is to slow these days im afraid. Having watched Heremaia run at defenders in the NRL I am hoping that he can give us this extra dimension, if he ever pulls a Hull shirt on that is!

I don't mean only a kicking game but a player who is a good kicker to take the pressure off seymour. Close kicking game was better yesterday but seymour is the only one of our 2 halfbacks who has a decent(ish) long kicking game.

Is it Christmas already?
After walking away from the last two games disappointed by some poor plays and dumb rugby, I am even more sure that Peter Gentle will have a better idea as to what is needed to take this team forward. Surely at least three of the above will be on his list.

| A big overseas prop, a young prop and a half back who can compliment Seymour and give us something different. A full back would be a luxury, but would be happy with Horney for a season.
Going by current runours, something like Kite/Galloway + Johnson/Burgess + Finch/Chase/Holdsworth? I think Gentle will have another big signing to announce.

| Kite's at the end of his career so I could see it happening, but I can't see Galloway coming for a few years if at all.
I feel we've moved into rumour territory.

| Bateman is quickly becoming one of the most overhyped players in SL, he has only played about 10 games and although he has looked good (not great), I think are getting carried away about him, how many young players have we seen come into SL and make a quick impact and then never really make it. I can't believe that clubs are talking about paying a six figure fee for him.
He may end up being a superstar or could be next Kevin Penny (or many other like him).

It's one thing being a quick winger and looking good on the wing for wire, saints or wiigan at 18. It's an entirely different thing coming into a lower placed team like braford and mixing it with the forwards in SL at 18. I don't think there is much doubt he'll go on to be a top class SL player and probably an international for many years to come. For wire he looks an ideal replacement for westwood.
I'd be happy if we signed kopzjack (sp) or whitehead from bradford

| Even if we do get what we hope for, I just hope people realise that it probably still won't be enough for us to be contenders just yet. There are simply too many players in our squad we need to replace/upgrade to be ready by next year (still about 10 in and around our first team squad - and more importantly, 4 or 5 in our first choice 17 - who aren't good enough for a title-contending side IMO), I'll be happy with top 4 and further improvement.

Him and Bateman? Can't see that tbh.
In all honesty I'm suprised there after Bateman, when they have Ben Currie coming through the ranks.

For sure it's the hardest place to come in as a young player and he has been causing damage to the opposition whenever I've seen him. Bateman will go on to be a top class forward. The reason that six figures for his signature are being quoted is simple - there will not be enough top quality players to go round in SL in the next few years even amongst the top clubs and the clubs know that all too well. When a potential young star is uncovered the top clubs will pay and will go for long term contract offers. This shortage of players will widen the gap between haves and have nots as there will be fewer overseas stars plugging the gap. I'm hoping that we'll be competing well for the few top players that will be available but if there was ever a time when a club needed a good youth policy it is now which is why Wigan are once again the team to beat it seems.

| If Russell goes back, I'd be tempted to sign Eastmond on loan and see how he goes at standoff with a view to signing him FT.
I did hear a rumour a while back that we were looking at him.
