Term used loosely!
Yes Horne played well on Friday buthis performances this year and few before have not warranted another 2 year deal. He should be used as a utility player next season thats all. We need a playmaker on the pitch who can kick the ball into space!

| Hornes had his time and a 2 year deal was too much. He should also be back up from now on. Would much rather go with Obst/Ellis and Seymour in the halves.

| Would have given Horne the right centre spot next year if Gleeson doesn't come back.
Ellis and Seymour in the halves, Obst first reserve as he won't get a look in at hooker,
Nicklas,Williams and McGlame are at the age were they all need a game sometime too so its going to be hard to accomodate everyone.

I think Obst will move to another club.

| I completely agree with the original poster. It staggers me that a fairly large minority (if not a majority) of posters on here cannot see the value Richard Horne brings to the team. He's been an ever present this year, has IMO consistently been one of our better players, and all sentimentality aside was fully deserving of a new 2 year contract. I am looking forward to seeing Seymour and Horne as our starting halves next season.

He has

Don't agree with that at all. For a stand off, Horney is one of the least skillful 6's in the league.

tbf in the first half both horne and westerman found the catalans fullback everytime, due to both wingers also dropping back on the 5th, in the second half kicking earlier in the tackle they found gaps

indeed, or centre, or lose forward, he's never been a 6 (certainly not a 6 that will win games on their own)

| Seymour and Heremaia will get us round the pitch next year.
Horne will be our 6, injury permitting.

| It would be better for the team if he was just left out of it all together. Certainly won't be disappointed when he's not in the team.

Horne has struggled as he's been asked to do something he's never been able to do - get a team around the park. It's not his fault the club haven't signed anybody to do that role and stay fit. I'd wager that 60-70% of our tries this year have gone through Horne at some point.

| Horne is a good player even when playing with injury. His long kicking isn't the best for sure but his short kicking is fairly good. He had a good game on Friday and has played pretty well this season particularly when taking the line on. Since his illness/neck injury he hasn't been as dominant defensively as he used to be but overall he is a good SL quality player who will likely line up with Seymour next year. Ellis needs to lose around a stone and a half pre-season and will then become a viable backup for those two next year.

| Horney is miles better than Obst in the halves and has been consistent through out the year. He is a bit like marmite some love him some hate him. If people are saying he doesn't deserve two years then apart from about 6 of our players no one else deserves contract extensions.

| If Gleeson leaves I would move Horne to centre as it would shore up our defence down that side, and he is good near the line.
He has still been poor at half back though, his kicking on Friday in the first half was dreadful, and a better side would have capitalized on those errors.

Agreed. I just made this point on this week's Dentist's Diary thread:
Quote ="carl_spackler"Just on the point about our hopes going in to the game taking a blow with the loss of Obst: We have a better record when he doesn't play than when he does. Arguably our 2 best attacking displays have been without him.'"

| IMO he's had his best season for about three years.
He has good positional awareness, is good defensively, is one of the few FC players to back up the ball carrier and I was surprised at the amount of pace he had when breaking through to score his try on Friday.
The only thing that lets him down is his kicking game which remains poor, arguably too poor for a first choice SL half back.

absolutely bang on the money there, well said.
and he has NEVER been a kicker and will gladly hand over that duty to the new guys coming in but agree he is having a good all round season
