| I rarely post on this board but read threads every day. After last nights debacle I felt impelled to analyse our results under Agar and compare those to Sharp.
Agar:
Season W D L Win %
2011 1 0 5 16.67%
2010 16 0 12 57.14%
2009 10 0 17 37.03%
2008 4 0 9 30.77% (starting Sts game after Sharp sacked)
Total 31 0 43 41.89%
Sharp:
Season W D L Win %
2008 4 1 9 28.57%
2007 15 2 12 51.72%
2006 12 0 5 70.54% (starting Huds game after Kear sacked)
Total 31 3 26 51.67%
Both coaches stats include play off games but not Challenge Cup games.
As can be seen Sharp had a far superior win ratio then agar when he was sacked. In fact when Agar was given his new contract last year he only had a win ratio of 34.09%!
It could be argued that Agar has a far superior squad to work with then Sharp did and certainly has had more money to spend.
I am far from a lover of Peter Sharp and felt totally underwhelmed by his appointment at the time just like I was with Agars, but when faced with such evidence how can the board justify keeping Agar in a job?
I stupidly renewed my pass this year (before Berrigan left) but have not been to a game so far this season and will not until Agar is replaced with a quality coach.
Sadly supporting Hull FC has become a chore rather than a pleasure and this seems to be becoming the thoughts of the masses!
I just hope the board see sense before it is too late!

| I posted some stats about Sharp last night. He was treated quite harshly by the club, although I don't remember a huge outcry about his sacking. I think he was misunderstood by a lot of fans. The results were there in 2006-07 which should have bought him more time in 2008. Possibly what cost him was some very poor recruitment.

| So Agar has improved his win percentage year on year then? No wonder he is still in a job

Your comment perfectly sums up the whole Agar scenario and all issues surrounding it.

Got me thinking about 2007 as well. After the 6-42 derby, we won our last 2 games against Leeds and Bradford, the latter with 16 British players in the 17. We then dispatched Hudds in the play-offs quite straightforwardly and barring a missed opportunity by Horne would have beaten Wigan for a GF eliminator spot. As you say, though, his recruitment was awful.

| What was Sharp's win ratio to the end of 2007? 2008 he had a horrendous injury list, so much so that we brought in players on short-term loans just to put a squad out...just interested to see how those defeats affect his stats.

I was a fan of Sharp. But the singing of Dykes was a massive error, he was a top player, but it was quite clear we didn't give him any kind of medical what so ever...he had every injury going!
I think it was right to get rid of Sharp, as by the end he was a beaten man and out of ideas. But I enjoyed watching his team play, that 13 game run in 2006 is some of the best, most consistent rugby I've ever seen Hull play. I also thought a lot of fans didn't get his 'sarcastic' humour, such as his infamous 'Beach house in Manly' comment, which some fans took as an outrage...I just took it as his brand of humour.

| If we're talking about Sharp then I firmly believe he deserved more time. He held the reigns during one of the worst periods of prolonged injury I've ever seen yet which he had no control over. A lot of folk mention the calibre of players signed during his tenure, yet we have no real idea of the funds he had available to him. I'd like to have seen him indulged in the same way Agar has; funds available to pay contracts & pay transfer fees and seemingly limitless time to get the team working.

By round 17 in 2007 (8-34 defeat at Odsal) we had 14 points in 8th place and had just been knocked out of the Cup by Catalans at home.
We then brought Matt Head in and won 8 out of the last 10 SL rounds (including scoring 40+ three times in four games) before beating Huddersfield in the play offs and then being eliminated 18-21 by Wigan.

He was hammered by some fans IIRC but IMO was a better coach than Agar by some distance. Pity he wasn't backed in recruitment in the same way that has been shown more recently although some of his choices were poor.

Spot on. As you know I was a fan of his and thought he was treated harshly. The irony is that many wanted Agar to take over at the time.

I think that the way in which he was sacked was handled very badly by the club and tbh, I felt for him. However, his recruitment was so shockingly poor that he just had to go.
I certainly wasn't one of the fans calling for Agar's appointment because that was very underwhelming indeed.

I want Agat out, personally, but I won't chant it until Mcnamara has signed a significant contract extension with England or taken on another job. The thought of him potentially replacing Agar is harrowing.

We'll probably pay the RFL compensation to buy out McNamara's contract.

| I didn't want Sharp to go - thought he was poorly treated by the club and a great bloke to boot.....not a bad coach either.
I also didn't want this numpty in charge either, we should of (at the time) IMO gone for Folkes who was coming available IIRC.
IF Agar goes soon there is only one man for the job.....Mr D Anderson.

TBH I think that's true of both Sharp and Kear, which is another thing that makes it so strange how much support Agar has had. It's almost as if the club are overcompensating.

| I wanted to give Agar a chance when he first took over Sharpe, but I think we signed him up to a contract WAY too early before he'd proven anything. By the end of that season, I didn't think he was the right man for the job. By the end of 2009 I was sure of it. The fact we signed him up in 2010 for another two years was outrageous. Whoever on the board is making these decisions needs to get in the same taxi as Agar.

IIRC it was more than just "becoming avaliable" he couldn't have made his interest any more obvious if he'd have painted himself bright yellow and sprayed "James Hire me Please" across the boardroom walls.
