The club encouraging the supporters to get behind the team? Yeah, it's an outrage.

Never understood why they don't play old faithful when the team comes out. I can't think of another sports club who have an "official" song who don't play it when they enter the field.

I could maybe understand it if it was some chirpy song about a robin but OF is a great anthem

Don't miss understand me mate I have no problem with encouraging the fans (although the best way to do this is to perform on the pitch!). But I have been singing/shouting/swearing/etc of my own accord for long enough without having to be told when and how to do it and the song has managed to start itself for over a hundred years. It's just atmosphere generation instructions such as telling me where to start the 'ooohhhhhllllld' of old faithful and the "let's hear you South Stand" etc can seem a bit desperate and a little embarrassing

I think I agree. Particularly with the part in brackets. If we were playing good rugby and competing at a decent level, there would be no need to issue rallying cries via the official website.

The 'official' version the club has had recorded isn't very rousing though. I feel sure I could do better myself given a day or two of studio time.

Just read the clubs website re singing old faithful just before the team comes out...

Not sure about everyone else but I think it takes a bit away from the song or it's not sang with real passion when we are told to do it... Just IMO of course..

Wondered what others thought? I might be on my own here?

Well with the new bloke on the mic trying to whip it up,it is hard to get any real passion singing it anyway.

Atmosphere can be assisted with good music - I used to like it when the KC first opened and they played The Who, but it did make me smile at the message of "teenage wasteland" lol

What a joke, suppose they have to try anything to try and rouse a bit of atmosphere, last 2 games have been like a wake, making the East stand reserved has killed the little atmosphere we had.

Don't see the problem myself? We've had no end of complaints on here about atmosphere and singing, and many discussions on what to play/sing as the team come out. Clearly people have felt strongly enough to contact the club about it and they've tried to respond to those requests.

Sometimes the club just can't win.

I'm personally not a fan of staged/directed singing, chanting, cheering etc that's all. If I'm moved to voice my opinion in a good way or bad then so be it, but I don't need to be told to do it.

Surely a deity of rock has some sway with the studios for a freebie lol

I see what you're saying about the club not being able to win, and on some things I think you're right. I can't agree on this issue though: it feels like being at a Butlins camp when you have some happy clappy chap with a mic telling you when, and how loud, to sing. If they sorted out the mess on the pitch, the atmosphere would improve markedly and there'd be no need for a panto-style singalong.

The only way you get free studio time is if you're recording the next Live Aid single. Unless I can get Sir Bob to collaborate, there'll be no freebies!

Depends how they actually go about it IMO. And I return to my point about this being a response to requests/comments from fans. I agree that if it's too stage managed it can be cheesy and counter-productive, but simple encouragement doesn't seem to be a problem to me.

Having witnessed their previous attempts to motivate the crowd into singing, I won't hold my breath on it being done tastefully.

I don't know if you were there for the Sky game where the announcer said something along the lines of:

"Come on, Hull fans, let's show those red and whites that we're the best fans in rugby league by cheering loudly for the cameras."

Pathetic and toe-curling, I'm sure you'll agree. As I said, make things right on the field and there'll be no need for any of this.

Correct the 2nd half of the Saints game last season is evidence of that...it was electric in that stadium...

Regarding the fans feedback all it states is that the singing of old faithful is a powerful thing - which I agree with wholeheartedly - but I doubt there was a request or a desire for it to be started in such a fashion

I know a few people on here have said they'd like the music to be cut a couple of minutes before the team comes out to allow the atmosphere/singing to build naturally. Maybe this is what the feedback to the club said and they've decided to go one better.
