the US now has rugby league :S, apparently they already have some teams ready and u.s.a might make it "the five nations" in about 4 years time :S and Mark Riddel has also said he wouldnt mind going there in 2012, hmmm.

America have more rugby then people think, especially in the North East areas around the New England area. I have friends who play college rugby over there, and it is taken deadly serious.

It's definitely on the up there and would suit their physical, fast and aggressive team sports which are favoured most of all in USA.

I played for Philadelphia Fight against New York at War at the Shore, this was some 4 years ago when I went over to New Jersey and I had a great time. They played at a very high standard. the captain of fight at the time was captain of USA also. Great experience!

Wouldn't be surprised. Suits American's sporting choices down to the ground. Just a matter of time until it kicks off IMO, but will take really something to break into the real limelight of American sports.

Nobody has mentioned that after the 2004 Tri Nations, Australia played the USA Tomahwaks in Philidelpia , eventually winning 36 -24.

The current league is not a pro league as most of the players don't get paid, although some of the teams are run like semi-pro clubs due to the distances involved. The biggest club, Jacksonville Axemen, has a larger average crowd than Leigh. They were talking about introducing a full-time league if they could secure a TV deal, but so far there hasn't been any sign of this actually happening.

I seem to remember that an ex-Rovers player had an involvement with rugby in America - Tim Irons - it was some sort of deal with the RFL that he thought had the potential to make him rich.

Rovers had a couple of Americans playing in the A team in 1980 - Tim Anchors and Pat Kelly.

IIRC they made their first team debuts in the Premiership defeat at Widnes the week before the 1980 Cup Final.
