His name seems to be cropping up on a few threads, but given he is (allegedly) our highest paid player, earning (allegedly) upwards of £150k, so around a tenth of our expenditure on players, what do we think of another year of him? Differing things have been posted on here about whether he's staying or not, so...

1) If there's an option to keep him, should we?
My view is, on balance not. For a contract of that size, he should be coming into games and making a difference. Today in my view we were just marking time until Houghton came back on. We've seen glimpses of excellence in Berrigan and he's obviously been hampered by injuries of his own, injuries to the team and playing out of position, but I just don't see the obvious value for money when you compare with our other big bucks signings of O'Meley and Fitz.

2) If we keep him, where should he play?
If he stays, I'd really like to see him given a go at centre. Houghton has the hooking role sorted IMO with potentially Washy on the bench to spell him if required and to cover the halves/2nd row. We are weakest in the 3/4s (and at 6), so why not try it?

3) Does he come off the quota as he's been here since 2008?

My opinion is simple get rid...release the dosh!!

I don't see any real reason to keep him, he is not as world class as we thought he was end of story. Yes we have had problems and he has had to play various positions but a world class player will always overcome that.
I would get rid and replace with someone in a position we sorely need someone for.

The way Danny Houghton has shaped up, Berro is an expensive luxury, if we can find the right player over there he is definitely worth sacrificing.

He looks a shadow of the player he was at brisbane and in SOO and Oz shirts

Houghton in my opinion, is now the number 1 hooker at the club, he's overtaken Berrigan.

If possible I'd look to release Berrigan and bring in a centre or stand off with his money and quota spot. Bring some one in who will be earning there wages not stealing it which Berrigan is at the moment.

I made my feelings pretty clear a long time ago, and they ain't changing. Get rid, asap.

He's rubbish. Will anyone remember him as a great as i know i wont. He is a big a part of the dead wood the club tried getting rid of last season but couldnt because of his name and salary. He has never delivered and is part of the the Lee, Horne, Washbrook, quartet that the club has carried for a couple of years now. Ill give Horne a chance but the club needs rid of Berrigan and Washbrook if it wants to move on next season.

The fourth year was optional and dependant on number of appearances in the first two years, the latter of which was reached.

He told Radio Humberside he was staying next season but this has never been confirmed by the club - although that might just be because it's an ongoing contract rather than a renewal.

If the 4th year is optional does that mean it is an option to both the player and the club?

His wage should be use on strengthening our back line.

That does not warrant his wages....

definately not but it has helped us, or it should help us when it comes to renewals. It is time to stop getting Aussies in because of thier names but get them in for thier value to the squad.
