| Anyone else just seen it on Sky?
In response to O'Loughlin's cheap late shot on Luke Robinson, in the news conference Brown basically said that if the Refs aren't going to protect the Halves and Hookers in the game he will instruct his bigger players to do it also.
Right or wrong?
I personally think it's something that needs to be gotten hold of and hopefully it will make the refs police this better.

| He's right
the rfl don't come down on the chicken wing, crusher, ninja(?), and late shots hard enough.

IIRC the ref saw it and gave a penalty.
It's the disciplinary he should be having a go at, not the ref

Also that if the refs don't get hold of it he will instruct his big guys to do the same.
Fair enough IMO.

| No issues here. Only what we wanted after the cheap shots from across the river. twas always thus back when I started watching in the early 80's.

| Think he is spot on, other teams are doing it and getting away with it so why not join the club.

| Whingeing in press conferences is not the solution. If Brown has a problem, especially given some of his team's propensity to deliver the odd cheap shot, then he should take it up with the RFL, not moan to the press

| He has come out with these sort of comments before, saying how if the referee doesn't sort it out he wants his players to. It will hopefully make the games more exciting

| same tactics were used in the derby by a few kr players on fc's pivot players, needs addressing before someone gets a broken jaw,it is very reminiscent of the terry newton hits on long and gilmour from a few years back

| I thought O Loughlin should of at least been put on report. This late challenge is now banned in the NRL so it's only natural that an Aussie should complain.

Dave we all know that you will naturally defend the ref before any team or player. Thats your right. But on this occassion it was the ref who was weak willed and not the disciplinary procedure. As Clarkey stated ( and he is so Wigan biased its untrue at times) if you can get 10 mins for holding onto the attacker for a split second too long. Then taking or attempting to take a man's head off well after he has passed the ball only merits a penalty then the ref is way off the mark.
I know you won't agree but the majority of us would rather cowardly play like that results in all players being sent off. I am certain that if that had been a Salford or any team from the lower end of the league player he would have walked. But as its a Wigan player then he stays on without so much as a talking to. Pathetic.
As for what Brown has stated, for me he was simply speaking the truth. Everyone of us who has played the game knows that the big boys protect the little guys. He maybe should not have said it in a public forum but he was speaking the truth. For that I admire him.
Chances are though Wigan were doing it in retribution to poop served up by Huddersfield in the past.

I could hear the RFL pencils scribbling as soon as Thaler didn't put it on report.
There was also a Chicken Win by Coley on Mason before it - although we got a penalty when he finally dragged the ball out.

| Think he got fined for slapping Trent Barrett in his early managerial years. Definately wears his heart on his sleave.

| just going slighty off topic, but still on the same game regarding thaler, if he is going to shout move when the tackle is made, why did it take another 4 or 5 seconds for the players to release the ball player, wigan were and are the worst offenders at this! weak refereeing in my eyes, should have penalised nearly every tackle for slowing the game to a halt near enough, i found the majority of the first half dull for that reason!

| Glad he's come out and said it, if for nothing else just the fact that he's got the stones to. It's one of the most pathetic and embarassing aspects of our sport that the referees and disciplinary system are protected from coach/player criticism. Maybe if they upped their game and treated all teams/players the same they wouldn't need to effectively gag them all.
