| Given what has just happened to Melbourne , I heard from a supplier of ours (Large Wigan Sponsor) that I took to the KC last night that alarm bells have rung out loudly about the Wire given their announcement last night they had signed Hogson the full back from Huddersfield and so officials are apparently asking how they also afford the players and squad they have massed??
I know this isnt really FC related but can any of the more intellignet on here have a stab at the value / cost of the wire squad with regards the cap , because on paper it looks very very expensive indeed and they most certainly are not getting 30K every week to matches

Attendances have nothing to do with the salary cap.

Yes, like the previous poster said, not sure what their attendances have to do with anything.
However, I thought the salary cap in Super League was "live" now? In other words, when a player is signed Warrington have to prove that it will not breach the cap in the process of signing that player. Its only then that the RFL rubber stamp the move.

| Is the Salary Cap in Australia 'live' like the one over here? If so, Melborne managed to get around it easily enough, so what makes you think other clubs aren't doing the same over here?

Its the same although theirs is 2.4million i think rather than our 1.7million.
Melbourne managed to get around it fraudulently and were caught eventually with possible legal action to follow due to the lengths they went to in order to cover things up and hide things from the NRL and auditors. If Warrington or any other Super League team have done the same as Melbourne i'd hope this opens the door for investigations and the same kind of sanctions.

| Not saying in any way, shape or form that it happens, obviously, but as an example theoretically a club benefactor could be paying players out of another, separate limited company. I'm sure there are ways round the cap that you wouldn't pick up simply by auditing the books of the club.

But that doesn't stop a club from handing out extra payments that are not on the books or giving the players credit cards with a certain limit on each month that is paid off by the owner. The latter been rumoured how Wire are doing it.

| If any team try to get round going over the salary cap they will have to explain how they are under the cap ..If you remember the off shore accounts were closed to stop teams paying players that way ..If there is underhanded payments the Clubs will be done ..Melbourne thought they had got away with it ,,Now they are paying big time for it and rightly so
