I used to teach my 12 year old team to mark man for man when defending in the centres and wing. We even did 2 on 2 drills making sure the winger didn't get sucked in to the attacking centre. Hall played centre for a very good team and I bet he used to jump out as a centre looking for interceptions knowing he had a good winger and full back to cover him if he missed.
My main concern is that I regularly see Hall jumping out and then seeing a winger scoot in to score.
Hall is tactically naive by being caught out like this but also has his coach noticed this and spent time on it. Raynor was rarely caught out as he held his position and stayed with his winger.

Not sure Agar can take the blame for Hall tbh...Hall has had more opportunities than most I know, his defence has always being very poor, yet a lot of people constantly offer excuses for this. He excelled in NL1, I suspect that is his level.

Yup. It's all Hall's fault. If only he hadn't played we would have won both games at a canter and we'd also be sitting pretty at the top of the table, unbeaten.

I couldn't believe how he missed all those tackles in the middle of the park and failed to get on top of their pack as well. Diabolical.

Hall is not the scapegoat here Kosh....the team were pants, however Hall is just not doing it, his defence is diabolical he is starting to resemble a headless chicken, I do not see how even moving him to centre will improve this.

Craig Halls defence is woeful at times, having said that it isn't helped by us adopting a sliding defence. This type of tactic only works when players; can be bothered to 'slide' across or are mobile/fast enough to actually get there. Craig Hall is not a winger (and never will be) and it shows when he's outnumbered, he panics and rushes in, leaving his wing wide open.

Good point about sliding defence, or our lack of it..I fear we may get spanked some more as the pitches dry out.

If you had swapped Yeaman and Briscoe for Hall and Whiting yesterday you'd have seen very little difference in the end result, but nobody keeps bringing up Briscoe's defensive failings.

I really hope Craig leaves at the end of the season and finds a club with a coach who knows how to use him and fans who aren't obsessed with pinning team failures on individual players.

Correct. One of the tries he was blamed for yesterday he was left 2 on 1 with Leeds centre and winger. He went for the centre and the winger scored; had he stayed on his wing the centre would have gone in. Technically he should have stayed on his winger but it wouldn't have stopped the try being scored. And yet the usual suspects were straight on here shouting about how he was at fault.

Give it a rest Kosh, Hall's fragile, it doesn't matter were he plays he can't tackle 1 on 1 to save his life.
I hope he does move on, then when he fails at his next club maybe you'll realize that he's not got the full skill set to be a SL player.
Hall is by no means on his own though, I personally would bin off the whole back line, keeping only Tansey and Briscoe.

Tansey hardly covered himself in glory yesterday either. And he's made defensive errors in other matches.

No it doesn't, Hall's fragility has been the same for 4 years.

Whilst Hall can't be made blame free from yesterday, he was left out to dry at times and it was all he could do to try and pat the ball down or shoot out the line and try to take Senior. The main issue for me was how bad our pack was, Manu aside not one of them can hold their heads up and say they had a good game. They lost nearly every collision meaning we had to commit more men to tackles leaving us woefully short outwide. When your facing a team as dangerous as Leeds you simply can't afford it. We weren't helped by picking up a few knocks obviously but you've got to be more dominant than that.

The thing is, at Leeds last week Hall was found wanting. So our wonderful coach leaves him in the same position again. McClennan must have been laughing his bits off. We all know that Hall's defence is not the best but due to our dismal attempts at a sliding defence he is being left exposed two on one too many times.

It doesn't matter were you play if your 1 on 1 defence is so poor.

I think you've just hit the nail well and truly on the head there, not a winger and never will be. As a centre however he is the best in the team.
