This is my first post so hopefully everything is good.

I am trying to determine the league records of the coaches we have had since Bunting - which is when I started watching FC - Nov 79. I lost touch a bit in the late 90's after moving to near London \ super league war etc.

Does anyone know the exact games when our coaches started and finished their FC careers?

I have worked out the following records, but any help or corrections would be appreciated.

Apart from Bunting and Smith , this world class team has had nothing other than a stream of average to poor coaches. FACT

What about Roy Francis then?.

When it's written down on paper it could appear that way couldnt it.

When written down on paper, Smith won nothing - the win was under Noel Cleal. Have we forgotten Kear's Challenge Cup and the wins way-back in history? You need to understand how the leagues were structured in the past before you pass judgement. Also it helps to look at the context of where a team is in its development: why did no-one mention DDD's second term that brought a team of average players to contenders for promotion into the old first division and the same with Phil Sigsworth's term in office.

I find such throw-away comments, as exist on this thread, a little shallow. I suggest you match the coaches with the following list taken from the Hull FC web site:

Phil Sigsworth must of been the most unlucky Hull coach ever when Lloyd and his henchmen took over.We ended up with the worse coach in our history imo...Peter Walsh.....That name still makes me cringe.

Me too - that whole regime seemed seedy and self-important. Phil Sigsworth worked wonders but has not found another coaching role since Wests. Of course there are always rumours about why that might be but I don't care - he was definitely a hero of mine when he was at FC.

Well I wasn't trying to have a go at any of our coaches based only on their records. I agree the context matters a lot, I think Royce derserves a lot of credit because the club was starting to implode when he was in charge and we kept selling players. I was just wondering how they actual did statistically as I have been watching old videos of the last twenty years, so I thought I'd try to figure it out.

Would definatley be interesting though to compare the coaches and their success recored with which coaches fans genuinly perceived to be succesful. Success isn't only measured by winning trophies as you and a few people have said on here. Wonder which period in time when we haven't won trophies people would say our coach has been a success.

I will try to have a quick word with my brother over Christmas and see if he can help you. He's the statto in our family, I'm the ranter and raver of the clan.

My biggest hope is for your list to have a new name at the bottom and soon - A.N.Other (2010 - )

In last 26 years we have won CCup twice and 1 premiership trophy in 1991

We are on average coached by average coaches , which for a World Class club is not acceptable. In the last 2 seasons we have 'struggled' to say the least so one can argue we are no further on.

However I support in hope of another CCup win in next 3 years and maybe a GF win in next 5 years

Shame it will mean writing off another season.

... must be older brother syndrome!!

Hopefully some clever person can fill the blanks in on my list, including a cup win in 2010!
