| Something isn't adding up to me. We were told recently that we were at full cap following the signing of lauikai and that there was no room to bring anyone else in. Then we sign wife beater on (reportedly) £50k for the rest of the season. So what has changed? Are the rumours about luaikai true or do they know the crocker outcome and waiting to announce it? Or is byrne being paid off for less than his contract value?

The club are currently trying to reach an agreement with Byrne so yes they will be hoping to pay him less than the contract value. I was told at the game the other day there is a legal way this will then not be considered on the salary cap. Dont ask me how though I was p1ssed when he told me.

My guess is that there was some small amount left on the cap, enough for a limited-term contract like Reardon's. We may also have found a way to get Byrne off the books at a reduced rate.

Maybe kath was asking Bluey if they would take him on loan if they had room left on the cap, with hethringtons running 2 clubs that is

We were told we still had cap space after Moa and before Lauaki. It was only after Lauaki that we were told we were at full cap.
That doesn't mean we didn't have a small amount of contingency cash that we've now spent on Reardon, and there may be other cost savings in the pipeline.

If thats the case why didn't they go out a find another back before the season had started knowing we was short in this area

Because we were in more need of decent forwards? And availability of decent backs?
Let's face it, we've only signed Reardon because we're desperate and he has limited options.

Because you don't need backs when you play 5 drives and a kick. I can see Thacks on the wing soon as he has a quick turn of pace occasionally.

| as far as i know only your 25 registered players count on the cap. these would be registered at start of the season i pressume.
then i think your allowed an extra 50k for the rest of the players outside the 25.

| As I understand it clubs keep some spare cap money to cover the cup games, losing at the first hurdle frees up that money

Do cup payments count towards the cap then? That means every side would have to budget for reaching the final.

Yes they do.
Knocked out at the first hurdle should free up hundred grand at least, 17 players on at least £500 a win, probably much more.

| If Hull are spent up on the salary cap with the players they have then I'm afraid some players are on too much or those responsible for signing them are idiots. Compare Hull to Saints for example:
Motu - Wellens about the same
Raynor - Gardner about the same
G. Horne - Gidley will be far more!
Calderwood - Meli to be on more IMO
Horne - Pryce about the same
Thorman - Long on more!
Berrigan - Cunningham the same?
Cusack - Graham on more!
Dowes - Cayless on more!
Radford - Flannery on more IMO
Tickle - Wilkin on more!
Manu - Gilmour the same?
Moa - Fa'asavalu on more!
Houghton - Roby on more!
Thacks or King - Puletua on more
Thoughs???
Also Hull must max out at the top end of the salary cap taking income from gates av. 14,000
Saints average about 8,000 but maybe income from trophies might help them payout for in wages?

| Could Saints be one of the clubs that HMCE are looking at over image rights ? it seems strange they are in the cap each year (or there abouts) but allways seem to make big losses as a company

Aye that is. But it dont take guesswork to work out Gidley, Puletua, Cayless and Meli wont be on peanuts. Long, Cunningham, Roby, Graham, Gardner and Wellens will be some of the highest paid UK players. I dont understand how Hull can be spent (if true) on the salary cap.
But if Graham Horne is on the same as Gidley or Cusack as Puleua then Saints have signed them on a bargin or Hull have over valued players. Or maybe Hull have a bigger squad and the money is distributed more on the fringe players rather then the starting 13 - 17? Compare quality and Hull are way off compared to Saints and Saints if the posts over the last few days are true
