| Agar follows similar tactics to those pursued by Peter Sharp, though Sharp was somewhat better with bench and interchange selections.
Maybe it will be a case of getting Jon Sharpe to take the head coach role and move Agar to a subordinate position 'until he is ready'.

| I know this has already been covered and i'm not alone in what i'm about to say. I have harped on about it now for a long while - the whole coaching set up at the club and the ethos around how we appraoch the game needs a huge shake up.
I, like many others, watched last nights game and while i was sat there i thought to myself on numerous occassions whoever we have in that side it wouldn't make much difference.....simply because the problem lies with the coaches and their tactics and appraoch to how the game should be played.
Any player can play to a game plan or set plays and structures, you don't have to be a world beater to fit in. Yes those players may not execute the game plan as effective as 'better skilled players' but as least they would have a go. And the game plan i'm talking about is fast play the balls (or faster play the balls) dummy runners, variation in kicking game, running angles (like Tickle for his try - the one occassion), promoting the ball, pushing through games with players supporting the ball carrier and so on.
Saints, Leeds et al have been doing this for years....regardless of who comes in and out of the respective teams.....Time for Agar to go....but we all know that aint gunna happen - neither is us challenging for anything while he is at the helm!

| Quote ="TKOAH"I'll give you the interchange thing, but look at us in attack totally unorganised which means should we ever get the quick ptb (usually on the back of Cusack, Dowes or Manu) the only option open to the acting half is to scoot themselves because nobody is ready. Look how slow we are to tap the ball on the 20 ffs. Again support play and offloading is nothing to do with Agar it's been atrocious for years, kicking again is down to lack of personnel Richard Horne should not be anywhere near kicking a ball but has to because there is no one else. We do need more enthusiasm in both attack and defence and maybe once Agar can offload some of the players who are clearly going through the motions this might change.'"
You're totally wrong. the majority, if not all, of that is coachable. These guys are full time professionals and these things should be drilled into them during the week so it's 2nd nature come game time. Do you think the way saints back up in waves is purely down to natural ability? It's because they practice it over and over again so it just happens on game day.
Yes, we could be more organised but it wouldn't change the fundamental problem

| Look at Agar's reaction to the Leeds defeat. He gets the players in at 7am and has them running up hills. Why? Wouldn't it have been more productive to work on fast play the balls and skills training? Maybe he could even try out a second phase of attack because currently we don't have one. People can blame an inherited squad as much as they like but it is quite clear there's no game plan and who's fault is that? As for interchanges, that's a total joke.

| You only have to look at what Nathan Brown is achieving at Hudds with a squad of individuals you'd hardly call world beaters. Put Agar in charge of that squad and they'd be in the bottom 5/6 teams in the competition.

Agree, he can take Sharp with him and several of the playing and coaching staff. Fresh start needed.

| Just been thinking about this debate of is it the quality of players we have or is it Agar;s game plan and tactics....surely if it's the former and Agar's game plan is to be creative with dummy runners, 2nd phase attacks etc then when this doesn't happen why the hell isn't he on the touchline barking orders out?!!?
I would be. I'd be there as close to the touchline as allowed given them encouragement....telling them to get a roll on, fast plays etc....clearly it is down to Agar's tactics and game plan simple as that. He sits up in the west stands detached and as far away from the players as he can be!

A good coach shouldn't have to be down there shouting at players. He should do adequate work prior to the game to ensure that such an approach isn't necessary.
I find it a little worrying that he's obviously going to be our coach next season. His game plan, interchange policy, attacking and defensive patterns are all so inept that I wonder whether a (much needed) change in playing personnel will make sufficient difference.
Or will we have to write next year off as well?

And both points have precisely what to do with whether you can coach players to support play and provide dummy runners? This is the point we are discussing and has zero to do with ability or having a scrum half. You could pick a handful of fans from the stands and get them to run forwards and follow the ball, it's not rocket science. And your suggestion that it's got nothing to do with Agar, it's because none of the players are willing to do it is quite frankly ludicrous.

My concerns exactly.
Looks like we'll have the opportunity to find out the hard way.

| Sharp did the chat to the fans in the bar last night and said it was a mixed bag. He thought in the first half we played some good stuff and threw the ball about better than we have all season. Still too many mistakes and it was the tries either side of half time and the bounce of the ball from the poor bomb that made the difference. When asked , by the official with the mike ,where do we go from here he started to praise Thorman saying what bottle he showed and how some of the rest of the players should be looking at themselves and taking a leaf out of his book. No one mentioned Thorman but he felt the need to defend him. He also said that there were a lot of sore and cut knees cos the pitch was shorn of grass and being reseeded and told us how he had to put up with that at Huddersfield as well!
And that was it.
Very insightful - not. Miserable. Clueless. No plan. No hope.
As long as we have Agar Sharp and the current coaching team you could bring in the full Australian test team and they too would be stood under the posts looking away from each other not talking and petulantly throwing water bottles on the floor. These players clearly do not want to/are not enjoying playing under this regime. The coaches seem clueless in man management as well as tactics.
Someone said to me that hearing the comments praising Agar from the new signings he must be a hypnotist - clearly it only works on the phone.

| I'm not a fan of sacking coaches but our entire gameplan seems to be hoping somebody comes up with an individual effort rather than making something happen as a team. Agar has had plenty of time to implement some structure to our play but its just not happening. It needs a whole new coaching set up and getting rid of some the deadwood at the club.

And the no $hit sherlock award for this season goes to.............we was all saying this at the start of the season and our early matches masked over the problems....they are both inept, simple as...the board are now bringing the players in...will they give us the coach to get the best out of them.

Just been a quote on Sky by Phil Clark where he said that Terry Matterson "gets value for money from his players and squeezes every last drop of skill and energy out of them each game". Oh how I wish we could say he same about our coaching staff.
