Might be a useful bench player. Maybe we should sign him again

| For me I would give Horney a year deal on a reduced wage, heard he is on 105k a year so offer him 55 to 60 and I'm sure he would take it but thats if he has a good run of games this season.
Moa has to stay on 2 or 3 year deal. Offer Burnett another year this season at London will do him good. Let Lauaki go flattered to decieve for me, Dowes also can go we have better younger props at the club. I think Fitz will retire myself but if O'Meley leaves then I would offer him a year at prop.
Unfortunatley I don't think Washbrook is good enough and hasn't progressed in the last two years so I think he will go to.

Disagree. Last year Burnett didn't look good enough at prop for the academy, just about no impact whatsoever. If he can't shine at that level in the position then I don't see how he has a hope in hell against the bigger blokes in SL.

Agreed. I should have thought Dowes would have taught us about playing props who are too small and have no impact.

| As for our squad overall, I think we're now in as much of a transition period as when Agar took over TBH, probably another cull needed. I'd be looking at getting rid of the following at the earliest opportunity and introducing fresh blood: Horne, Long, Dowes, Obst. I'd also see how the following do this year before handing out extensions: Fitzgibbon, Washbrook, Lauaki, Burnett. Turner's another who needs to improve to earn his keep. I'll wait until I see how Phelps goes before I make up my mind.
My big worry is that we may soon start to see the players we do want to keep hold of wanting out.

It's not necesarily about size though. Maiava was massive and still got outperformed by the smaller kids around him.
And TBF to Dowes, he's never been a particularly big prop, but he has been a good one. It's only over the last 18 months he's started to fade IMO. He certainly had a much better defence than Burnett without giving away as many penalties (another thing that's gone wrong with him now, though).
I just don't think from what I've seen that Burnett has the game to play prop.

| Moa and Ogre we need to keep as they are our best props(And getting Moa to sign a new deal is very important we cannot lose him)
Lauki would be devastating if he was used right but his defence looks very weak and would get rid on that basis and that he uses a quota spot or non fed spot thingy .
Washbrook would keep if he is cheap and tbf has been messed around playing in his wrong position.
Fitz ..probably would get rid or try and get him in the coaching setup as I dont want him stopping westerman playing at thirteen another coach would probably play fits at prop or 2nd row.
R.Horne All depends on fitness to me but I do agree he would be on less money as he is a risky gamble these days
Phelps Will be a good buy and would keep if he puts in a good season and keeps himself fit.
Whiting,Yemo,Briscoe and Sharp are all keepers in my opinion.
Dowes ...I would get rid of. Doesnt offer much and his defense doesnt seem as good these days.
Long...Has to go very injury prone these days and takes up alot of the salary cap

If you were Tom Briscoe would you want to stay at Hull?

I wouldn't stop there. I think there are 7 or 8 of our players who can do better than Hull.
I've said on here before that if you take club loyalty and location out of it, which of us local fans would genuinely find Hull an attractive proposition to sign for if given other SL options? If you're any good there must be at least half a dozen better clubs to be at, maybe more.

Sorry mate, didn't mean it to sound like that
I just meant it can clearly happen but must only be for teams who don't/can't afford to spend full cap.
I.E. If we are a near full cap we couldn't possibly get someone on PAYP... Whereas Salford, Wakey etc may find it a better option!! Problem is you then have no contract, so if the said player turns out to be any good then any team can come and take them!!
Surely must just be a way of lower clubs getting better quality players just to get them playing, but not tying them to that club!!

He's 30 and average. By the end of his deal he'll be 32. We should have done better this time around, with another 2 years there can be no excuses to not line up somebody better.

He was signed as a back up half back/hooker. He may be average but he's better than what we've got.
You were talking about getting rid of him before the two years are up.
I wouldn't re-sign him but would keep him for the two years with the intention of replacing him with someone better.

Was I? My words were 'at the earliest opportunity'. That's the end of his contract unless he wants to move on, and if he did want to move on, then yes, I'd let him. Again, we should be able to find a better/younger option than him.

You bracketed him with 3 players who are all OOC at the end of this season so it was a reasonable assumption that you wanted to move him on before his contracts ends, which your last post has confirmed.
Sure he's no superstar but I think he can do a job for us.

Fair enough, then yes, he could go tomorrow and I wouldn't be bothered. I wouldn't actively seek to get shut, but I would neither have signed him for 2 years nor would I retain him. We'll win nothing this year, he won't be the difference for that, so him being here makes little difference.
IMO if a player is neither good enough to command a first team place nor has the potential for improvement I don't see the point in him being around. Obst does not fit either description for a club who should be aiming to compete for silverware IMO.
