Its as close to being a fact as possible that Hull cant compete with the big boys when it comes to recruitment, if the likes of Leeds, Wigan, Wire, Hudds, Saints and even a case for Rovers in recent years are interested in a player that we are we loose out, simple as.
While im not knocking any of the above signings, None of them were really in demand from what I can tell, there was talk of Long been offered a two year deal at Wigan so maybe he is an exception but then again maybe he didnt want to be disrespectful to Saints or didnt want to play for the team who rejected him as a youngster, but im pretty sure had Leeds, Hudds or Wire offered him a two year deal he wouldnt be here, LMS is an example used earlier in this thread and that seems typical to me, we identify a player and when the big boys come in we are blown out of the water, Shenton is a similar case I believe. Going right back to the likes of Lauititti and Orr in 2003 there are countless examples of this. I cant deny we have made some major coups with the likes of Swain and Berrigan at the top of there games but like another poster has said we dont get into bidding wars.
I think our recruitment could be described as sensible, and our financial progress over the years proves this, I also think our geographical situation often works against us, but this is just another reason why we are not a major force when it comes to recruitment.

Long came to Hull because we offered by far the best deal financially.
Mark O'Meley chose Hull over Wigan.

As for orr, I'd take him as back up 1/2 back or hooker. Decent kicking game and much better option than washbrook. Probably better than horne now anyway

| Here's the news story from the Aussie media linking O'Meley to Wigan
Quote ENGLISH giant Wigan may be about to give Mark O'Meley an opportunity to sever ties with the Sydney Roosters.
Wigan owner Ian Lenegan, who is in Australian for 10 days on a scouting misson, confirmed he was on the look-out for a prop and O'Meley was on his radar.
It is understood the Roosters would be happy to rid themselves of O'Meley to free money under the salary cap, and they may get their wish with talks believed to be scheduled for later this week between Lenegan and the former Test prop's manager, Wayne Beavis.

Mr B is a diamond.
Was looking at the highest posters and Oldham Rhino has nearly 50,000. We have 3 of the top 8 - Paul M, Hutchie and cod'ead. And Sheldon, Chris28 and Danny 2 are all nearing 10,000 as well.
