As others have said, the damage was done with his public slating of our half-back scenario earlier this year.
He put pressure on himself by saying they weren't good enough and that he was going to bring in superior.

Very interesting when you consider we've said we couldn't match their offer.
I just hope we don't buy someone for the sake of it, those rarely turn out to be a good decision.

The flaw in your reasoning when you make statements like this and the prior one is that you fail to distinguish between the reality of a situation, and the fantasy of how you think it should be. You consistently bemoan the quality of halves we are linked with, but then seldom respond when asked who you think we should approach instead. IIRC, one of the few times you did offer a reply, it was some nonsense about remembering the days when we had the likes of Sterling, which is completely irrelevant because the likes of him simply don't exist in enough numbers any longer.
Looking at the teams who finished in the top 4 this year, I'd personally say that only the 2 Catalan blokes and Briers are any better than Holdsworth.

| why do we all think the world has ended because Scott Prince has not signed?
He isn't the first and certainly will not be the last to turn an English team down. Are we all forgetting what strides we have made in one whole year, and with the new signings already made by hell we will improve again next year. At least we rae attempting to sign these "quality" signings unlike some clubs I could mention.
Please do not fall into the trolling dobbins traps and believe that because we do not have Scott Prince our season has collapsed because believe me if we had signed only one player for nextyear we would still have signed more quality than our close neighbours.
Sit back and look forward to another improving year ahead, and who knows, more signings may just be around the corner. Even Peter Sterling turned us down once.

| For Hull FC to become successful we need to produce our own stars through the Academy.
Very difficult I know , but we will always struggle to entice players to sign.
Hull's geographical position and bad press doesn't help our recruitment of players from UK and abroad.
Maybe we will have to be patient and wait another year or so. Holdsworth is a good signing and he will improve us in the halfbacks.
I think AP will now be learning that throwing cash around does not always work in RL.
Also Adam hold back on the public statements.
Keep your powder dry !!

| I think holdsworth will be massive for us this yr. Just in a rugby/hull conversation earlier in the yr i hypothetically said about how he'd be great in a decent team and I'd like him at hull. Then later as it turned out he signed. His 1game in a decent team with forwards to play behind and he was m o m even with top players around him. To say he is rubbish is dumb. Gutted about chase more so prince but no one else is targeting these type of players and getting this close. Nearly doesn't count i know, gotta come off eventually. But either way this team as is is far better than the one that started last yr!

You missed the point. SM said that the Ellis factor would have players and their agents knocking our door down to sign. He was clearly alluding to quality players that would improve us. The opposite has been true in that we have been scouring the world looking for players and offering massive deals to get them here. They haven't come. The Ellis factor hasn't apparently worked. For what it's worth I thought that it would have a positive effect but there has been no sign of it at all with regard to signings hence my disappointment , not anger.

| I have said previously that I thought the club was too open about its transfer dealings and got a slating for it.
TBH I don't think it scuppered the Prince deal because he clearly wanted to stay in Oz and his agent has managed to bring that about. The Prince saga may harm our chances of getting Miller though.
So far as Holdsworth is concerned no he is not a world beater. Equally he is not ruibbish. He is a lot better than average. He was in fact the best available and I think we did well to sign him. He will do much better in our team behind our pack than he did at Salford.

I fully understand your point of view but I for one (along with many others) 100% agree with what AP said , the two players we had at 6+7 are not good enough to take us to the next level and it was like a breath of fresh air to hear our owner come out and say what the vast majority of fc fans have been saying for years (or at least since paul cooke left). Maybe in hine sight he should have kept quiet but im glad he didnt tbh

How do we know we haven't had quality players offered?
Looks at the players that have moved club so far this off-season, the biggest deal involves us (Ellis) as does the second biggest (Manu, although not in our favour admittedly).
Not many quality players have moved clubs, we've tried to manufacture a deal with (at the time) the Man of Steel which fell down through no fault of our own. Prince has chosen Brisbane over Hull, can't blame him, his decisions were family motivated. My point is that the big deals or potential big deal have involved us, that's a good sign, surely?
I do also think that it will take more than a signing to show our ambition, with the signings we've made if we finish top 4 and really push on in the playoffs (GF eliminator) and go well in the Cup then this will have a better effect than a marquee signing. Players on the whole want to win things and play in the big games, once we show we're truly close to this, that's when we'll see real benefits and even be able to get better value for money out of the cap.

I won't be suicidal if we go with a DJ/BS partnership next year.
There'll be plenty of others who will be mind, solely on AP's stated position at the backend of last season.
Possibly at the time our leader thought [iwe[/i were a bigger draw than what the reality actually is.
Possibly we've been very unlucky the way things have panned out.

| I know some folks will say Adams off again but I spoke to Peter Gentle a couple of weeks ago and he said that the only player he was now after was a 7. Then Pearson says this in the HDM today!
"That's the nature of sport, but we'll keep looking for players of the highest quality and I am confident we can still bring somebody in over the next four weeks."
Well it is a rumours thread after all!

| My opinion regarding "Prince-gate" for what it is worth. I think it is probably a blessing in disguise. The full facts are not out yet, but there is suggestion that he has accepted a lesser term, possibly even slightly less money and is far from guaranteed a place in the Brisbane squad on a weekly basis. It clear to me that the second the suggestion came along that he didn't have to move to England, and could play for a NRL club just a few km up the coast, he jumped at it. I think he would have been another McKinnon, a quality player who doesn't want to be here and therefore heart is not in it.
My criticism here is with the club and the public way they have gone about things. I know some of us like it after our last lot that told us nothing, but its damaging the reputation of the club in my opinion, to the point of making us a laughing stock in some quarters (not just Rover's fans) and more to the point leading to a massive relationship management exercise with the fans and players. Expectations are all over the place and people are disappointing when they didn't need to be. I appreciate the media get hold of things at times, but they can dismiss it as rumors until they have something concrete, like everybody else seems to do.
On the pitch. I would love a half back with flare and a kicking game, but in Seymour is a good solid player, one of his qualities in my opinion is taking on the line and his defensive play the later of which you usually lack in a half back. I think he will do well. The question of course now is will his heart be in it given the public way his position within the club has been played out.

| My fear again is turning up and seeing the 'headless chicken' style of play due to no natural, organising 7. At the minute, looking at the squad, a lot is resting on Holdsworth.
