When we thought Agar would get the push at the start of the season, I was very much in the camp of retaining Agar if McNamara was the alternative; it was suggested he was very much favoured by our outgoing board. I now think they are equally compelling options.

| Ultimately Agar is the problem. No one wants to see anyone lose a job but for three seasons now Hull have not developed as a team. Costly errors, poor defence, poor attack and crazy game plans. Looking at the top teams, Wig, Warr, Hudds, Cat, Saitns and even Cas - all have Aussie coaches, who are Aussie cast offs or unproven in the NRL. Leeds were a good team with McClenan and champions. Now with McDermott are average (and still beat Hull) Warrington with Lowes were poor - Smith comes in and look at the change. Catalan's with Robinson have improved significantly. Huddersfield under Brown have made significant improvements. Cas are developing well too under Matterson. Saints hampered by injuries under Simmons but still up there and competitive week after week. Kear won a challenge cup. Sharp got Hull on an unbeaten run of 19 (i think) and got Hull to GF. Both sacked for far less than what Agar has achieved.

| Quote ="carl_spackler"I don't know about that because I don't know what was said. But a large part of his job is to promote the club and portray everything as rosy. So I would completely expect him to regurgitate the thoughts of the board to both support the club as doing the right thing, and to present a harmony of thinking amongst everyone. Pearson has already almost categorically stated that the last point is not true.
I don't for certain, in the same way that you don't know for certain that it has. He's not a shareholder, so was likely to have little say in the coaching appointment or the subsequent job security of it. I don't therefore see how he could affect on-field performance.'"
Like you say, neither of us knows the truth of the situation so either view could be true, however rule has certainly danced to the board's tune for 4 years or so now so he was either in agreement or kept it shut for his own reasons.

Totally agree. I'm staying open to the concept that he may not truly think the coach is unimportant because I would expect expect him to dance to his employers' tune even if he disagreed, but the rumours this season of him looking to leave suggest he wasn't happy with something that was going on. Could well be the coaching situation which is beginning to undermine everything else at the club that is successful and which he appears to have played his part in achieving.

| Someone overheard a conversation last night:
AP - Do we need a new coach Jim?
JR - No, we were 10 minutes from 4th place last season with a stack of injuries. Give him his own squad and an injury free season and he'll do the double
AP - Nice one. Good to have someone on board who really know and understands the game
Probably

Pearson isn't that naive.
The only thing that will stick in his mind though is his sacking of Brian Little all those years back. Little did a miraculous job getting pennyless Hull City (who hadn't paid their players for months) to the playoffs just before the Pearson takeover. Pearson then came in and spent loads of money completely re-vamping the squad, but the new players actually did worse than the previous bunch and Little was promptly sacked.
When he sold City Pearson admitted it was his biggest regret during his time at the club, and that he had wrecked the dressing room atmosphere by changing the squad so quickly and drastically.
Which is why he is making statements that he won't review Agar's position until the end of the season.

Pearson will do his own homework, he hasn't bought the club to take any old advice. He has already said we need to aim higher. He was never going to just come in and sack the coach.
What worries me is who is advising him with regards to RL?

If he has any sense he'll be speaking to the likes of Simon Moran and Ian Leneghan.

It was reported at the time, he supposedly had a very generous compensation package in his contract which they didn't have the money to pay. That's why they placed him on gardening leave instead of sacking him, and Dowie was given the ridiculous title of Football Management Consultant instead of Manager, to avoid Brown going for constructive dismissal. His settlement was reached later on, after relegation, as the compensation clause was apparently linked to which division City were in.

So they couldn't afford to sack brown but continued to pay him and brought someone in on an additional salary? Bit of a genius this pearson. Let's hope he puts agar on gardening leave and brings in wayne bennet on a consultancy basis

Brown had something like 2 years left on his contract. Paying that up in a lump sum will have been a fair bit more than Dowie was on for a few months. There were also rumours Dowie was on a pretty low wage but with a good bonus if they stayed up.

No I didn't, but I would've expected him to be a bit more ambivalent in his remarks about Agar. Or better, make no comment at all on the coaching situation.
So far he's said he's the [url=http://www.thisishullandeastriding.co.uk/HULL-FC-Agar-key-man-says-Pearson/story-12994938-detail/story.htmlmost important person at the club[/url (I know we've all assumed he meant the "coach" as opposed to Agar, but was that wishful thinking?) and has appeared on telly saying the coach's position was not under review and Agar had done "a good job" and had suffered from under investment.
Coupled with Sam Moa's relief on signing his new contract that Agar would be here next season I'm starting to think that Pearson may maintain the status quo.
Certainly he's given no indication whatsoever that the way forward lies within a new coaching set-up. After the CC defeat I would have expected an ominous silence if this was on his mind, instead he gave him the Look North vote of confidence.

In the interview I saw on Look North he seemed fairly non-committal. When asked if Agar was the man for the year ahead he only said he was the man for now.

I know, that's what I told myself too, just have a general sinking feeling. Can't explain it - paranoia, maybe? Or a resignation to the worst instilled over the last four years?
Just not as positive as I was a week ago. Thought a hint may have been dropped after the Leeds match.
