I agree that Tommy has had a good season, and has stood out in a poor side. But does that not tell us more about the other players than Tommy. Would he get in the 17 for Saints, Leeds etc?

If we want to assemble a squad good enough to get us back up the table, and capable of competing for silverware, then some tough decisions need to be made. I don't think that we can allow sentiment to get in the way.

Personally, I think it says a lot about his character and how he's matured as a player.

Good post. Lee has put in lots of effort and in that respect has been better than many this season but I doubt Saints and Leeds are in for him.

The poster stated Lee been offered more money, which suggests they (Salford) regard Lee as a bigger player within their team more than we will, which on balance would be about right.

He's had an OK season but would any of us be pleased if we paid him over and above what we (the club) think he is worth? More so on the basis that he will be a squad player next year as opposed to a regular 1st teamer...only my opinion of course.

He has improved massively this season without doubt. What did he do yesterday which made him stand out ? Nothing as far as I can remember.

Salford play Robbie Paul as their rotation hooker don't they? who you'd presume will retire, so maybe he will be pretty much guaranteed first team rugby, interchanging with Alker

Never mind Tommy not getting in Leeds or Saints etc who else would.In all honesty there is not one player who played last night that i would see as a great loss if they were to go.

TL has undoubtedly put in a big effort this season and done ok but putting in more effort than the mediocre lazy plodding waste of space bunch that we currently have is not, IMO, enough reason to offer him a new deal.

We cannot just keep retaining local lads who are full of effort. How many SL clubs would really be interested in picking up TL ?? Not many !!

If we are ever going to compete at the top of SL again, we must rid ourselves of mediocrity and bring in quality and, effort or no effort, Tommy Lee is bang in the middle of that aforementioned mediocrity.

It was a good performance. Competent. His tackle on Fleary was successful and worthy of mention because of their respective physiques and standings in the game at the time. It was nowhere near as good a performance as Tony gave on the very same pitch in 2006.

Judas Cooke won man of the match for us that day. In the game I mentioned, Horne won man of the match as a 16 year old.

I'm not sure what your point is. Are you saying that being awarded MotM is irrefutable proof that that player was the best in the team? And, even if that was the case (it isn't, by the way), are you saying that someone winning MotM in one game automatically means that their performance was/is better than all performances in past/subsequent games from players who didn't win MotM? So, for example, our MotM against Salford in the cup performed better than our second best player against Saints in the 2005 cup semi? Because that's what it looks like you're saying. I've no idea why you'd think that though, given that it is a ludicrous position.

I agree that it's not a direct comparison. Just IMO Horne played great that day in a struggling team in awful conditions, as a 16 year old. The example you used was a game where we thrashed Leeds, Motu played off the back of a dominant, go forward pack and still didn't win MOM, although he returned the ball very well that day.
