For the Season 2006/2007, the limits on foreign (non-EU) players were lifted, based on a decision of Deutscher Fußballbund (DFB) and Ligaverband made on 21 December 2005. At the same time, the UEFA local player ruling was introduced. This ruling stipulates, that a certain number of locally produced players must be enrolled at each club. For the 2006/2007 season, this was at least 4 such players, for the 2007–08 season 6 players and for the 2008–09 season 8 such players.

A locally produced player is a player which, during the age of 15–21 years, was licenced to play for the club for three different seasons or years

In 2009 / 10 they had a 45% ratio of foreign players in the league. Still leaves 55% ratio of German nationals who I assume are eligable for the national squad.

Yep, William Zillman is the new HDM comments section name in the frame. 2 knee reconstructions, but I'm not complaining

Zillman can cover a number of positions, but he has a history of long term injurys, and has only played 60 odd first grade games in the 5 years since he started in the NRL.

I cant see the Titans letting him go, unless the have a ready made replacement lined up. With Preston Campbell likely to move into the halves this year, Zillman is the obvious choice to fill his full back position on a full time basis. The only other full back cover the Titans have is in the shape of Qld cup player, Shannon Walker, who is still a long way off first grade quality.

We may of had a chance if Berro had opted for the Titans. That said, I've never heard of him.

He's a decent player, and can cover a number of positions. He looked comfortable playing on the wing for the titans for the majority of last season. He can cover in the halves, but full back is his prefered position. I would be pretty underwhelmed if he was one of the players we were trying to sign.

looking at the RL Press it seems that there is simply no one of the calibre we are looking for readily available.

The League Weekly state that to our credit we have been in for sammuut but the Crusaders Chairman says that he is going nowhere, and that he will be a Crusaders player next season. As for Jones Bishop, Leeds say that they will not consider any loan deals until after the season has started. In the League express The Warrington Coach says that despite a link with Hull there has been no appraoch for Myler and he is staying put and will be playing for the Wire this season.

So unless there is someone we don't know about at all in the pipe line it looks like we may not be signing anyone with perhaps the exception of Cameron Phelps whose still without a club. However he could just be a last resort type of signing. If this latter scenario is the case then I think the club could be critisised for letting a play maker of Berro class leave for Australia before a replacement has been found. Some folks obviously know more than me but all the usual channels of decent rumours are quiet at present.

The club could of course prove me wrong, but with a few on here hinting of announcements this week etc. it is quite frankly hard to see where any new aquisitions will come from. If they are not forthcoming, with Berro leaving, it will certainly put added pressure to the start of a season when our coaches future must be on the line if we fail.

I guess we should just keep believeing!

The thing is Wilf it is very rare that any players we are due to sign are linked to us in the press, although i don`t believe that the club will announce anything this week we can but hope, i can`t believe the club would be silly enough to release Bderrigan and loan out Burnett without having a signing or 2 already lined up.

I live with the hope that is the case. Whilst i'm happy for Burnett to be loaned out he does actually have a value in the squad, he's a second-rower and should we lose 2 of Dowes, Radford, O'Meley or Moa he can come in and allow Lauaki or Fitz to move up.

Berrigan simply has to be replaced. I will be horrified if he isn't - especially when it has emerged we've actually paid him off.
