A reminder that the "work in progress" was the Mail's words, not Hodgson's.
As poor as the half backs have been I wouldn't expect them to cancel family holidays to stay at home and do extra training.

| Presumably most clubs players have holidays booked. I saw Matt Pryor at Leeds Bradford airport on Saturday.
As we all know the club like to drip feed signings. It wouldn’t surprise me if all deals are done but the club are just waiting to announce..

For me it wouldn’t be classed as extra training. It should be the norm? It is still the season?
We often hear coaches bemoan the fact that, due to the number of games, they don’t have time to work on things with the players in training.
This would have been the ideal time to do that?
Perhaps this is the time that sorts out those players that are prepared to go that bit extra to be successful?

It was a planned two week break because of the England game so presumably players from all clubs are taking the opportunity for time away - even from clubs lower than us in the table. Personally I don't begrudge them, it's a long season from pre-Christmas training up to mid Septermber or November for those involved in the World Cup.
We don't, of course, know how long players have gone away for or whether they has a personal training programme to follow.

| Hodgson Shenton doing a top job with the young kids. I think next year we will see some more start to push through. Am sure they are in a better position than most to see when the young guns are ready to step up. Looks like he's putting his long term plan into place.

Indeed seems like Shenton & Riding are doing a great job and also interesting to hear in the piece on Kye Armstrong that Ellis goes down and Kirk Yeaman is mentioned as going there a lot.

| Hodgson might have been better in a Director of Rugby role, putting the systems in place.
Not financially viable though, but just an idea.

We simply have not produced enough SL quality players for years given the quality of local talent. However it looks like the foundations are now in place to rectify this.
I was surprised when Shenton was appointed but it could be the clubs most important signing in a long time.

| Still wont surprise me to see Gaz and Shenton in the coach and assistant role.
Plenty of respect there and we know Gaz is doing a great job on the defensive side of the game.
May be rookies but we have seen many experienced coaches fail and Peet not doing a bad job at Wigan.
Apart from Hodgsons very poor recruitment he comes accross as been too nice and definitely too loyal to certain players

Mint, Lane, Fash, Brown, Bowden, Saul, Tag and now Wynne. A couple in other teams. It's not enough, especially from the last few years.
Looking at our current u18s looks so much more hopeful. We have brought kids in from all over and seem to have more prospects than since at least 2016. I'm liking this new direction but only time will tell if it's worked.

| The club are putting more emphasis on the youth over next couple of seasons that's why Adams put more investment (which was needed). Shenton looking a great appointment, the like of Staveley, Balmforth, Hookem and a few others highly rated, lets hope they can take the next step.

| Patience has ran out with him. Seems a nice guy and clearly intelligent but he looks defeated and out of ideas.
Another season dead and gone before summer is over and he has to take the rap for the expensive mistake of signing Reynolds

| Think he's doing a good job together with Shenton concerning the youngsters. Tonight he was stripped of Connor Tuime Griffin Swift Gale Davellio Cator. No wonder we are struggling. Not all down to Hodgson

| Nice guy and out of depth for sure !
he said all he asked for was ‘Effort’
that’s utter bunkum - total garbage
This is a results business - all he should ask for is the WIN against a team who have lost the last 5
think about it Brett - effort ? effort ?
it’s a WIN Brett not effort

If he's doing such a good job with the youngsters then slot them into the 1st team like Saints and Wigan do.
Difference being we have no structure to slot them into.
Without Connor we have nothing going forward.
Yes winning a game may be harder with such players missing but people would accept that if we had structure and shape and didn't look like headless chickens.
Some of the older pros now need removing from 1st choice or moving on to allow these youngsters there chance to shine.
This is where Hodgson now needs to step up and manage the team because currently the other place we look like heading is down the table.

| I get Hodgson is the head coach so he gets the most flack however I’d love to know what our ‘attacking coach’ Purtill is actually doing. He’s been here since 2020 and our attack is just still dropping players off and running a wedge play to the open side.

Personally I'd leave Ellis & Shenton, in their current roles.
Ellis has already stated , he's not interested in a Head Coaching role, doesn't like computers ...
The job of a Head Coach, is vastly different to an Assistant coach

I heard during an interview with Hodgson, he's letting the onfield players to organise the plays ,ball in hand. a la Radford...
For mine it's lazy coaching...
Saints lose their halves, and still score plenty, they are well structured with set plays..
Judging by our attack, Purtill isn't doing anything..
