New academy behind the east stand and new south stand with educational facilities I've been told. Big chunk of grant funding

If it takes as long as the North Stand, it'll be years off. Until then, it's jam tomorrow and not really a robust basis for allocating elite academy status. As AS says, though, this is the RFL, who knows what they'll use to make the decision. Would be a big call to give it to Rovers over FC given the recent independent scoring review.

Putting all rivalry aside the idea that regionalised academies could result in one club having a monopoly of local talent is patently ridiculous.
Changes to Super League structure require a two thirds majority and believe it or not Rovers, Wakefield et al get a vote.
The Kingston upon Hull academy will provide players for both clubs depending on their preference. As ever it will in most cases be about who makes the best offer.

I agree, stupid idea but your last point is interesting - will rovers benefit from Hull's spend? Could free up cash for rovers to spend on player contracts rather than wasting it on coaches, travel etc.
I understand the likes of wakey etc are keen on the 12 to 8 format as they will probably have more competitive games that they will probably win

What is this flawed rational to which you refer?
It is clear you do not agree with the findings so are choosing instead to ignore them. Convenient, but a foolish tack. A wise man acts on identified weaknesses that affect the long term underpinning of his business. Lets hope Hudgell demonstrates wisdom instead of the ostrich method you advocate.
The flaws in the RFLs criteria are....?

you know, i've always though some form of draft will come to superleague at some point in time, maybe not for the young players but certainly for free agents and restricted free agents
can't see how it would work for young players, unless the elite academies are equally funded and each academy puts forward an equal number of eligible players. i suppose the ultimate alternative is to have academies not tied to any clubs ran centrally picking out the best young players in each region, a sort of central contract system for youngsters (this might also help to head off union poachers). clubs could then continue to run second tier academies and the draft system would then apply to the elite youngsters, along with free agents
all pie in the sky really but i can see the draft coming at some point in some form or other

| Can anybody really see the two academy systems merging when Rovers are creating their own facilities behind the east stand and Hull FC are spending money at Bishop Burton. My view of the whole thing will be that Hull will be awarded an Elite academy status and Rovers will continue to run the academy in a similar way to how it's run now but with a few more staff and better facilities.

| Obviously this begs a lot of questions.
Quote ="FC_Jay"We have a lot of youngsters in the city, surely having one full time academy will lower the numbers making it through to Superleague?'"
Only if this were the bottleneck in the player pathway, which seems unlikely to me. In principle I’d favour a smaller number of regional academies, ideally RFL-funded and run, with the cash coming out of the Sky grant. I think this would allow resources to better focussed and with talent being less dilute, hopefully it’d raise the standard.
If, as AP believes and anticipates, a single academy in Hull will be run by Hull FC then will they be running it on behalf of the RFL with RFL funding, or will it effectively just be Hull FC’s academy with Rovers’ shutting up shop? If the former then anybody (Rovers, Cas, Bradford, Wigan) should be allowed to sign players coming through the ranks, just as Hull could sign players from a Calder academy, etc. I don’t think a draft would work too well with all the issues of employment law, restraint of trade and so on. Hull might have a slight advantage in recruitment, through knowing players better. There’d also be potential for a conflict of interest, with players known to be choosing other clubs getting their development de-prioritised – but with a bit of independent oversight it could work okay. If Hull pay for it, the advantage is clear – they get to ‘cherry pick’. Those not running academies save some money with which to 'poach'. It wouldn't be the healthiest set-up, having 2 tiers, but the sport isn’t in robust health, so maybe needs-must.
My worry is that they go for something in between, as a compromise. Everybody thinks they’re getting their own interpretation and they all end up feeling aggrieved.
It’ll also be interesting to see how many teams and at what age group(s) a ‘super-academy’ constitutes. I’ve heard rumours that there’ll be under-23/reserve teams for all SL teams – so how the academy structure would fit with that and whether dual-reg will be retained will be interesting.
Quote ="Sheldon"So what will Elite status have? What will the point of Hkr's academy be?'"
If AP’s assessment is correct, it sounds like more than just different badging to me. The only way, if AP is right, that Rovers would also have an academy would be if they and other clubs felt forcibly disenfranchised and decided operate a separate system – which actually might have some advantages for the club, IMO. But if enough feel that way, the change wouldn’t get approval in the first place.

| The RFL have published the plans that have caused so much furore. On full-time Academies, the proposal is to have 10, run it is implied by 10 of the 12 SL teams in the new structure, on 6 year licences. They would be funded (at least in significant part) by an RFL grant.
The (probably scant) consolation for those not getting this status, advantage and cash would be that they are not obliged to include so many club-trained players in their squad. The gap could be made up with non-fed signings, it appears.
Clubs not receiving academy accreditation have the option of running (and self-funding) a part-time 'centre of excellence'.

Easty is an arrogant little man who got found out spouting his gob off and sacked as a mod, set consistently low standards for trolling and fails to meet them.
I think that covers it.
I also hear he's GavinMillersBellend's biatch.
