Whiting has that thing most lacking in our team of late - a brain!

Far from average, but im not going to get back into the Washy v Whiting debate again. Simple fact is, Whiting is behind Washy in the pecking order and as i said, will be lucky to play unless we get injuries. (thats not me saying i dont rate Whiting, its just locigcally he doesnt fit into the 17 with the other players we have)

I see Washy in a similar situation to Rich Horne. Due to injury or playing out of position or whatever he hasn't exactly been pulling up trees in his performances in the last 12-18 months and it's the likes of him and Horne who need to start making things happen on the pitch and playing to the level that many people claim they are at.
Agree at this stage that he will be chosen ahead of Whiting.

| I fail to see how, when we've struggled so badly for players with brains over the past few years, the player with the best RL brain at the club (Long aside) wouldn't get in the 17 if some people had their way.

Well, yes, but the topic had drifted somewhat since then. I couldn't work out whether he meant Whiting, Washbrook, Agar or Big Dave T.

All this talk of Whitings brain, is he really the only player to have one? Are Whiting fans honestly saying that Washy doesnt have a brain for example?
I'd take Washy every day of the week for 13. He has a far better defensive workrate, better running game, better passing game and his kicking game aint bad either.

Some of us are fans of both players.
Of course Washy has a brain but IMO Whiting reads the game better. However other aspects of Washy's game are better than Whiting.
If only we could combine their best qualities into one player we'd have a real star.

Spot on, and I'd be happy with either at 13 although IMO this is a big season for Washy to claim the shirt permanently.

Should be 13 with fitz at prop through the middle. 2 workhorse props - Fitz and cusack, 2 go forward props - o'meley and Moa.
To be radical -
8. Fitz
9. Berro
10. O'meley
11. Whiting
12. Manu
13. Washy
14. Houghton
15. Moa
16. Lauaki
17. Cusack

No. Washy does have one, it's just not as sharp as Whiting's.

No.

Not bad close to the line, but then, neither is Whiting's.
We are comparing two very different players. To my mind, Washy is a second rower - similar to Wilkin - and Whiting is a creative, ball playing loose, the extra pivot we've been missing. It depends what you want from a 13, I suppose. If you want an extra second rower at 13, then, I'd agree, Washy is probably a better option.

It's a no brainer for me, Washy should play 13. I liken him to Sinfield at a similar age. He does have the ability to out in the workrate but is also a clever player and has good hands and a decent kicking game. He is also a leader amongst some of the younger players and imo is captaincy material.
Whiting should have had a go in that position last season but the problem I have with him there is whether or not he could cope with the amount of work he would have to put in. Personally I think it would be tough for him.

I hope very much he goes on to be as good as Sinfield and I can see the parallels you draw there. Has much work to do to achieve that with top performances on the field next season being a must.

| The debate at to whether we play Whiting or Washy at 13 is irrelevant...Agar will play Radders at 13!!!
I'd love to see Whiting at 13 but if he was going to play there surely Agar would have given him a run out last season?
As has been mentioned Washy (a bit like Horne) appears to have stagnated a little (mainly due to injuries i guess) both of them could do to hit the ground running next year.

For what it's worth, I reckon he could have the workrate. It's impossible for anyone to say either way until they've seen him play there. Either at 13 or 11/12.
All those saying he doesn't have the workrate must be basing it on the fact that he makes fewer tackles at centre or full back than Washy does at 13. Which is a little silly.

People are giving their opinions that's all. The last 4/5 Hull coaches all have decided against picking him at 13 so maybe that tells us something?
I am not sure he is built to play in the pack and think the extra workrate may tire him out in terms of his attacking play but nobody knows for certain as he has not played there for an extended period and is probably not likely to in the near future with the options we have there.
