| Quote ="FC Wembley 08"I have sent the following email to Paul Duffen at SMC......................
Dear Mr Duffen,
I am writing to express my disappointment regarding a couple of your recent actions over the last few days.
My first point is the decision not to allow the upcoming England International Rugby League test matches to be held at the KC stadium. As you may or may not be aware we have had these games played in Hull four times over the last six years or so and this year you have deprived the whole community a chance to support their national side in our own city.
The decision, i believe, is due to a possible clash of fixtures with Hull City AFC and that you asked the RFL to wait until June/July, when the fixtures for the new season are released, before a decision would be made.
The stadium itself was built with council money and is therefor owned by all of the people of Hull and the UK, Not just you!
Other then the financial gain to the SMC, it is also an excellent opportunity for local businesses to benefit from the extra fans from many other areas of the country.
When the story broke in the Hull Daily Mail on 21st February, you were 'unavailable for comment', why have you since not given an acceptable reason on how and why this decision was made?. Especially as you seem to be in the media every other day commenting on Hull City and always 'available' then.
My second point is your latest statement regarding 'Rugby league fans'. At a recent Hull City questions and answer session you were asked by Radio Humberside about complaints regarding the above mentioned test match. Your reply as to whether you had received many complaints from rugby league fans was "no, i didn't even know they could write". Now, I'm sure this comment may have been a little tongue in cheek but when you've already placed yourself on many people's bad side regarding their sport you shouldn't be making such statements in which you imply that people who support rugby league are of lower intelligence.
Maybe if you showed a higher level of intelligence by not making the two above decisions (particularly the second) you would not be reading this, and many others I'm sure, email of complaint.
We can read and, obviously, we can also write.
Finally, after not only creating a problem and annoying a whole community of fans, I speak for all rugby league fans and demand a public apology through all areas of the media as soon as possible.
Let's hope he does something about it !!!
'"
Just a couple of points regarding the above:
1) I appreciate feelings run high but if you're going to send an email asserting your ability to write, you may want to get someone to proof-read your work and check your spellings and grammar as highlighted above. I'm not judging you - it makes no odds to me and I'm not claiming to be perfect - but it does seem somewhat ironic that your email contains several mistakes and tends to defeat your own argument somewhat.
2) I think it is a bit presumptuous to state you speak for all rugby fans when clearly, judging by some of the responses on this board, you don't.

| When the football fixtures do come out do you think that Duffen will alert the Football league if there is a possible clash with a RL fixture that is already in place, possible play off match?
If we get to the play offs this year I can honestly see us having to do a Wigan and play elsewhere because the Football league/Premiership will not move the fixture.
Remeber year before last when he said that he was the saving grace for Hull FC by staging 2 matches in 1 day? Yes it was good, but it should never have been a possibility that there was going to be a clash.

Well thanks for your kind words but i think you'll find other than 'therefore' and 'then' instead of 'than', the letter is grammatically correct.
Even so, not really d about getting an English lesson today thanks!!
On your other point, if you're happy being told you can't read or write that's up to you, but i'm not and can't find anyone one here that is!
Or........ maybe YOU haven't read things correctly and are mistaken, but that would then make Mr Duffen correct wouldn't it??

| I can see the point of HFC Yorkie's post though, so even if you don't feel you need an English lesson today, making grammar and spelling mistakes in a letter to a person who (maybe jokingly) says RL fans can't write, is sort of making his point for him, don't you think?

I agree completely with the points you make. I do feel that this could be the thin end of the wedge and that Mr Duffen has clearly pinned his flag to the mast regarding his stand on RL, not just within our stadium, but the city as a whole.
The stadium was part funded from tax payers money and was built as a community stadium. As a local tax payer I am slightly concerned that Mr Duffen did not feel it important enough to put his Hull City bias to one side and secure an International RL fixture that would have made money, not only for our council, but also local businesses in these troubling economic times.

But the point wasn't to give you an English lesson, it was to show that when trying to defend your ability to write well, it would be better not to make grammatical/spelling mistakes.

He will be judged on his performance by the council i guess and if they feel he hasnt made best use of the stadium he will be replaced. At the end of the day though none of us know the reason why he did turn the opportunity down (if it ever existed) do we? Im pretty sure having followed his previous dealings closely that they will have been for sound business reasons.

Well this is something that had to be done for us this season. It's another reason why Duffen is been silly here. He can't book an international game for the KC due to the fact football fixtures havent been released yet, but can inform the FA that Hull FC have certain games on certain days? I know we play the majority of our games on a Friday now but I'm guessing the Sky games for the second half of the season will be out before the football fixtures are released in June, meaning we could have a game moved to a Saturday evening.
Also after what happened the last time we reached the play-offs, it wouldn't suprise me if the Saturdays that are allocated by the RFL for play-off games are booked for the KC, just in case

Judging by his comments regarding RL fans and their ability to write, I would maybe question his ability to make sound business judgements.

Now please don't jump on me here but there are obviously two schools of thought here. However if any of you feel as fed up and mad about the way our game has been treated by the Chairman of the SMC over the international I suggest you E Mail the Chairman of the Council as I have done and/or if you live in Hull your ward Councillors their E mails are all on the Council web site.
councillor.minns@hullcc.gov.uk
OK you will say it will do no good on this occasions but if we do not register our disgust in the way we have been treat then he will think he can do it again and again and who knows what he will try next. He has to realise that he was appointed by the Council to run the SMC and therefore the peoples stadium!
And while your at it send a text to Humberside sport tonight too!
OK now have a go at me, but everyone can sit and grumble so those who really feel aggrieved do something about it!

Firstly let me make it clear that I'm not a pedant and, as Big Dave T has already indicated, there are more spelling mistakes and grammatical errors on this forum than you can shake a stick at. Thus if I'd have wanted to have a go at a general abuse of the English language I'd have had many opportunities before now.
Secondly however, and despite you not wanting a lesson you maybe should note:
- When using the first person it is customary to use the capital "I" rather than "i" as you have done. Just because people abuse this in text messages doesn't make it right.
- When using quotation marks, any other grammatical symbols such as commas or full stops should be contained within the quotation marks, hence;
'...unavailable for comment', should read '....unavailable for comment,'
- You don't need a capital letter after a comma in the middle of a sentence so "...people of Hull and the UK, Not just you!" is incorrect
- You don't need a full stop after a question mark, so "...why this decision was made?." is incorrect
Clearly therefore your assertion - "Not that i'm (sic) really too bothered but the letter IS grammatically correct and reads correctly. " - is incorrect.
Thirdly, and as Chris28 correctly and kindly illustrated, my point wasn't to be a grammar critic, but to highlight the fact that by getting things so wrong you have completely undermined your own argument! I'm not claiming to be a grammar expert - there may even be mistakes in this post as I can't be bothered to re-read it - but if I was sending a letter to Mr. Duffen proclaiming my literacy I'd have checked it first!
I obviously have too much time on my hands.....I'll get my coat.....
