| Think it will be sub 10k, hopefully as low as possible, 8500 would really send a message that the club won't carry on turning over what it has done unless the board place more emphasis on the performance of the team.

Not this again. I'd guess that he's wishing for a short term drop in gates to focus the board's mind, so that a longer term drop in gates doesn't become a reality. It's perfectly obvious where he's coming from, and he's no less of a fan because of it.

I'm not suggesting anyone is a lesser/better fan, it was a question to a supporter and I wanted a reply.
A bigger crowd, IMO, can really spur on the team to win a game. This is why I would want a big crowd. Instead of worrying about Agar/The Board, how about the players on the pitch who can do something about it?

There are people, myself included, who feel that we will never reach our true potential whilst Agar is in charge. They see a situation where we'll drift along indefinitely in mid-table mediocrity, playing poor rugby, and without ever having a realistic chance of winning anything. In that scenario, there's a good chance that we could lose fans permanently as they drift away and find other interests.
If a significant short-term drop in gates helps to spped up the removal of Agar (and the appointment of a suitable replacement), this is, to some people, preferable to a larger gate meaning that we register a win against the Crusaders, but still don't stand a chance of competing with the top teams in the longer term.

^^ Its unreal the way some people think isnt it!
As if it would think that not going would make the board even consider Agar's position...

I agree with a lot of what you're saying, but I am more interested in supporting my team for a win then not going to a match just becuase I want the coach out. That's just my way of thinking, anyway.

A lot of people are like that. they just think about today and tomorrow will take care of itself. Do you find yourself looking forward to each payday after you've blown each month's salary in about 3 days?

What a patronising comment! It's my opinion to support my team, it's not wrong or I am not doing anything bad! I get my pass, every year, to support my team. End of.

And that's up to you. But there does seem to be a tendency for some posters to look down their noses at those who think differently. They don't state it explicitly, but the inference is clear: how can you call yourself a fan and want the gates to drop (or the team to lose)?
The fact is, some people believe (whether rightly or wrongly - this will only become clear in time) that a drop in income for the club or a string of poor results will speed up Agar's departure meaning that the long term detriment to the club is less great than if he were allowed to continue to the end of his contract. This doesn't mean they love the club any less, just that they have a different idea about how the long term success of the club might best be secured.

I'll apologise to anyone if I have come across that way, that is the last thing I want. It's up to you or anyone how you view supporting Hull, I was just asking for an explanation is all.

There is a bigger objective here mate. No one posting on here wants to see us lose but would accept a few losses if it made us stronger in teh long term.
It's a bit like recruitment. Would we rather bring in a young player who might take some time to get up to speed or an ageing croc who will maybe win us teh odd game but who will cost us a fortune and isn't in it for the long term

To be fair Tommy the explanation for preferring us to lose or wanting to see lower attendances has been given on this forum numerous times this week, you're on here enough not to have missed it.
It's a simple, well thought out argument and in most facets of life seeing the bigger picture and planning ahead are generally thought to be good practice. What's actually harder to understand is the view you hold, which while being admittedly more traditional, seems based only on the misguided belief that to be a proper supporter you must think only of the short-term.

I'm with Tommy. No matter what I think about the coach and the board I want my team to win regardless.
It's okay saying you would accept a couple of losses if it made us stronger but none of us know how many losses it will takeand none of us know who would come in. The new coach for instance could be Macca and then imo we would be no better off.

The point is that traditionally a supporter doesn't need to think about wanting the team he supports to win games. It's a given, a fundamental and defining aspect of being a supporter.
I understand why people might not want to go to games any more; I understand why people would [iaccept[/i mounting losses if it brought us closer to a better coach; I don't understand people who [iactively want[/i us to lose games. It goes against everything I understood being a supporter to be about.

| personally i never want to see my team lose, but for a couple of different reasons. firstly it makes me feel i've had a good week if my team wins and i feel happier, and secondly it stops dobbins supporters having a go at work.
and of course i want rovers to lose for exactly the same reasons

Yer I do get that argument, but it comes back to long term and short term again. I do want us to win games, and I'm confident that by losing a few more games now we are improving our chances (albeit not guaranteeing) of getting a proper Coach in, and then over the next 2 or 3 years we will win more games than we would if the current regime stayed in place.
The only thing anyone has ever said to counter that argument is along the lines of 'long-term and bigger picture shouldn't come into it' but there's been no real explanation for why it shouldnt.

| I'm not particualry bothered about how many people turn up tonight to be honest. I think we'll win but will that change anything given that we go to Wigan next week? We all know what's going to happen that day and that's the problem - we're not in the same league as the top four teams when we should be.

Because supporting a sports team isn't (or at least shouldn't be) an intellectual exercise.
