The policy your talking about has not progressed your squad this season and IMO has taking your squad backwards, I'm sure your league placing come the end of the season will show this. Your right it won't bring instant success and further recruitment along these lines are unlikely to put bums on seats.

According to today's HDM, We are facing a battle to keep Jamie Shaul, OOC at the end of the season.

Who can blame the kid if he has other offers on the table? His passage to the 1st team is blocked for at least 2 years

Wonder whether Wakefield are in for him? Would be ironic for Agar to give an FC academy product their break. Like you say, can't blame him at all, but disappointing if we lose him.

wakey were my initial thought. rovers would have been the other but they have the next billy slater so unlikely. Maybe another leeds swoop for one of our promising youngsters. Thankfully it's unlikely he'll go anywhere as we were assured following the loss of briscoe that it wouldn't be allowed to happen again

Why not sign him for 3 years and loan him out for 1, bit like the Eden deal.

That's what I'm hoping will happen - loan could start now if required.
In 18 months time he could come back a better player with some SL experience.

After years and years of terrible, overpaid fullbacks - it would be nothing short of tragic if we lost Shaul. McDonnell's done well, but not one of his performances was better than Shaul's at Wakefield imo.

Losing Shaul would surely fly in the face of everything Pearson is trying to achieve at the club.

Whilst I agree Shaul had an outstanding game against Wakey it should be pointed out that it was just one game so we have no way of knowing at the moment if he is better than McDonnell. I think he has potential so ideally I'd like to think we can sign him up to a new contract with the view that he will become our number one full back.

Right now though our number one full back is McDonnell and unless his form drops or he gets an injury then Shaul will be on the sidelines. Unfortunately that means we run the risk of him potentially moving onto a club where he would be their guaranteed number one straight away.

I really think this is a nothing story, he is OOC and that is it. He cannot be approached yet by other clubs officially and he has already stated he loves Hull and it was a dream come true to get his debut.

Just give the club time to sort his contract out before we all jump on Hull for letting him go, just what Hdm want with this story.

I agree. The piece is even careful to point out that Shaul himself has shown no signs of wanting to leave. The other thing is that we are far from the only team where he would be in the same boat. I don't honestly think there is a better side in SL where he'd be likely to command the fullback spot without injuries, so would it really be in his interests to take a step down as a permanent switch?

It wouldnt happen at Wigan or Leeds I dont think thier youngsters seem to be happy to wait their turn and go out on loan, I'm sure Shaul could be number one on loan at one of the lower clubs in SL with the option to come back if Macca gets injured?
