| Thing is, we have very few players to choose for the National teams as it is. By diluting the player pool even further with exemptions is just criminal. When we get tonked in the next 4 Nations, it will all be Steve McNamaras fault though!.

| IF the RFL's the governing body in this country then how can their hands be tied?? They run it and set rules for ALL to follow for the good of the good of the sport in this country..
Just as a childish comparison........
A national newspaper runs a dream team competition, in which states,
1. Can only sign 3 players from 1 club,
2. Maximum money (like a salary cap I guess),
OTher rules obviously but that will do for now.
This IS what anyone wishing to take part MUST conform to, no exceptions..
NOw its a competition just like SL or CC, and you couldn't turn around and say I would like 'special dispensation' regarding money, extra players etc because the answer is no!!
So why can the RFL not demand clubs to stick to It?...
Either stick to the rules or you not allowed to compete..
Simple yes or no???
(Haha just my take on it mind)

Then what is the point of caps, quota etc??
Not worth applying one if its illegal..
BAsically if teams won't abide by it, it makes a farce out of the RFL...
Pointless argument then!!

No it wouldnt. If you're born in the UK you can play here with no visa. If you're not born in the UK you can play here but require a visa. If you require a visa you go on the quota. The quota has a max of 5 people. You can gain residency to count as a UK born person by spending 5 years here. (i'd revert to 5 rather than the current 2 or whatever it is) You cannot get residency or count as UK because a distant aunt was born here. (the UK piece may need to widen to European born to keep the EU happy but otherwise it's pretty simply to stop our game getting flooded with Aussies, Kiwis, Tongans, Samoans etc etc.

Presumably all clubs signed up to, and agreed to abide by, 'The Rules' of the competition, which are set by the competitions 'governing body'. If a club then does somthing outside those rules, appropriate action can, and should, be taken. The correct course of action would be to challenge the rule, through whatever mechanism exists, then abide by the decision.

The current rules, if properly enforced, will have the same effect. There are currently a large number of exceptions due to players being here prior to the introduction of the rule (the so-called Gene exemption) but as those players retire or leave SL the numbers will shrink and all clubs should eventually have just 5 overseas players regardless of nationality.

Actually it isn't.

EU effectively covers Tongans and Samoans, who cannot be subject to quotas following the Kolpak agreement. Plenty of Aussies and Kiwis are eligible for EU passports. You're basically calling for a return to the pre-2008 rules. Fed/non-fed was the best the RFL could do IMO.
Sorry for being O/T mods.

| This Maros Kolpak (a Scandinavian handball player, apparently) has a lot to answer for. I expect he'll be the next person offered an un-paid seat amongst the Rovers' board of Directors.

| I've heard we're signing 2 aussies this week, with special dispensation being received for one of them due to us then exceeding the quota. I expect there will be many here in uproar and demanding refunds on the cost of their season passes
