You're missing the point though Jake. I've already said that Wigan are a hell of a lot better at it than us.
Nobody else "destroyed" us. And we certainly weren't the only team to be "destroyed".

But that's what we aspire to Jake, we're not there yet by any stretch, but neithers anyone else.

The point you made was that we play pretty much the same as wigan, just that they're better at it. Now you could take it back to basics and say that cott tigers under 11's play pretty much the same as wigan, just aren't as good at it if you want, but it's irrelevant.

Our style of play is nothing like wigans. They rely on movement off the ball, controlling the PTB through good defensive technique, moving the ball quickly to the wings, great kick chase etc. We look like complete plodders in comparison with our forward orientated, safety first rugby, sloppy defence and forwards trying to barge over from 3 metres out. It's the only way agar knows

We have a basic gameplan, easy to neutralize. You just seem to be the eternal optimist instead of being a realist like Jake and myself.

I think you're reading far too much into how Wigan play, it's an easy mistake to make. We play the same when our halves are fit. The problem we have is when our halves aren't fit we move away from that. Wigan are just that much better at it than us.

Edit: Realist? It's people who can't see what mess we were in and what steps Agar is taking to address it and are expecting it all to be done in a year or so are the ones out of touch with reality.

We are slow and ponderous no matter who is playing. long was anonymous in most of the games he played last season because we don't play the style of game where we create uncertainty in the defence and provide options for the ball carrier. How many times last season did we break the line only for the move to break down because no one was backing up?

Exactly. The term 'realist' is just turning into a new word for 'pessamist' IMO. I've heard/seen it a lot this pre-season.

I understand what a mess we're in and that Agar is trying to address the balance however styles of play were being discussed and unlike you I don't believe that with all the right pieces in place we would play anything like wigan due to the gulf in classes between the coaches.

I admit we're more rigid than Wigan, but maybe that's because Agar doesn't have the confidence in certain integral parts of the plan. Hardly surprising he's less confident in Washy and Berro than Long and Horne. This is again, why i think Westerman is going to be so important.
