Surprised how many Rovers fans don't know the rules about double movement. They seem to think they've been robbed by not getting Parcell's try awarded despite it been the most obvious promotion of the ball I've seen for a while.

This is my favourite tweet so far. Guy is so deluded it's laughable
"Apart from the breakaway try Fc didn't threaten".... what, apart from the other 2 trys we scored??

| Remember when Keith said all Rovers halfbacks were better than Clifford, not only is he better than any of their halfbacks, he is also better than any of their fullbacks.
Imagine the abuse Hoy would have taken on social media if he misses that tackle of Swift like Walker did.

| Missed the game today as I was at Headingley for the cricket.
Sounds like a bit of a scrappy game but for a derby only the result really matters.

| A gutsy win which took some digging out. The game as a whole was hardly an exhibition of free-flowing rugby but we gradually ground them down as the 2nd half wore on after a very lethargic 1st half.
Heaven knows games like this aren't much good for my shredded nerve-ends! I'm getting too old to be watching this!
Nine games still remaining and most of them are certainly winnable, which would put us somewhere in the mix come late September. Question is, can we maintain a reasonably high performance standard enough to pinch a play-off spot? I'm still not wholly convinced we will, but at least we have some hope which is more than we could have said after Good Friday.
As for our nearest and dearest, they look like they are running on empty based on their last two performances. That early season spark has definitely disappeared somewhere, think it's Wembley or bust for them in 2023.
Right now, I'd rate our chances of being in the six better than theirs, which is some turnaround from when we last crossed swords with them.
Onwards and upwards hopefully, with everything crossed.

| Personally I can only see Salford dropping out of the top 6. Wire are stuttering but Williams coming back will steady them. Hudds. look as though they’ve woken up at last, we play them twice, it could have a bearing. Think we’ll just miss out and Leeds will sneak in.

Well played mate.if im honest, wasnt a great game, both sides, loads of mistakes, but the best team on the day won.
.I expected clifford to be the man to stop, but I thought he had a relatively quiet game, and houghton appears to have found a new lease of life.
We were very ordinary at best, hard to say who shone for us.I dont understand why parcell didnt come on till 50 odd mins and he was probably our best player again.

Firstly, well done for coming on here and fronting up, never easy after a derby loss as you run the risk of abuse!
Your team needs a spark from somewhere/someone. You're resembling us these past few years when our seasons just drifted away to nothing with some abject displays as the year wore on.
If you lose the Cup semi, then I think it will deflate you for the remainder of the year. It will be difficult to pick yourselves back up and make a push for the six.
If, on the other hand, you beat Wigan, I then reckon Wembley will become a distraction, the be-all and end-all of the year for you. Trust us, we know that scenario better than most!
Either way, I think the last nine SL games may turn into a bit of a slog for you. From what I've seen these past two weeks, there doesn't seem to be much spare energy in your team. You look the polar opposite from March/April time.

7 of 9 should be enough, but it is a big ask. If Wakey were gone and Cas safe it’d look a slightly less narrow path, but they’ll be scrapping points for a few weeks yet most probably. 6 of 9 is still a decent shot but with your pd you’d probably need to run up big scores a couple of times and avoid any tonkings.
Quote ="BP1"As for our nearest and dearest, they look like they are running on empty based on their last two performances. That early season spark has definitely disappeared somewhere, think it's Wembley or bust for them in 2023.'"
Yeah, it sounds that way. This could be a mid-season slump and we end strongly, but that’s a bit like watching Hamlet and hoping everybody survives. More likely it is where Willie Peters gradually loses his belief and realises what SL is. I remember poor Craig Sandercock’s face as it gradually sank in.
Quote ="BP1"Right now, I'd rate our chances of being in the six better than theirs, which is some turnaround from when we last crossed swords with them.'"
Yeah, very possibly. The more immediate concern is if we spring a surprise in the cup semi-final, is that even a cause for celebration? I can take a lot… but a patched up Rovers team vs Saints (or even Leigh!) in the final, that brings on a bit of a cold sweat.

Don't let Barista hear that, she'll be laughing again.
At least she's been true to form posting Rovers as favourites again
I do agree with you on Carlos though. Sutty is our most effective centre and Cam is developing well and has pace.

| Quote ="Mrs Barista"Just on Houghton's assist for Swift. He looks a different player under Smith.'"
DH certainly does look a totally different player, as does McIntosh, Scott and just about everyone in the squad. I bagged McIntosh earlier this year, I thought he was gone, but, for me his improvement is massive and just shows what a coach of Smith's calibre can do with a squad of players that we all thought were finished. Lewis' petulance is great, for opposition teams. He coughs up penalties and gets himself so wound up he loses his head. We'll take him, apparently he supports Hull, although I didn't believe that, but under uncle Tony, he can then reach his undoubted potential.

| Well, I reckon if you were a neutral is was probably a shocking game to watch. In the first half I thought we looked like a bunch of players who had never met before. I was really surprised and disappointed by the lack of cohesion we showed in attack. Second half we found a little bit more quality but it was hardly a stellar performance. Rovers were just poor from start to finish. If they don't reach the CC final their season is done imo. They look like us in many previous years, started well, imploding at the back end of the season.
All that said I'm thrilled to play that badly and still get a result. It's a cliche, but good teams know how to win ugly, and that was certainly ugly. Looking at the respective fixtures of ourselves, Leeds, Salford and Rovers over the next month, you have to say we are in a decent position to make a playoff push. Although playing against teams who are fighting for survival brings its own challenges of course.
There were some positives from the game (aside from the result). I thought Cam Scott was again excellent. His improvement under Smith has been enormous. The same with McIntosh. He's making much fewer errors, which I think is probably a confidence thing on the back of a good run of form. But the thing about him I'm most pleased with is how much stronger he looks in collision. He used to get dominated and pushed back almost every carry. Now he actually looks like a bit of a handful for defences. I'm not sure if Smith has worked on his body position, his footwork at the line, or if he's simply been working hard in the gym (he does look physically bigger) but something has obviously changed and he looks a miles better player for it.
Houghton continued his good form with another very solid performance, and he showed his versatility when we had to reshuffle after Hoy's injury. Credit to Clifford on this front too who I thought looked really assured at full back. The guy is clearly just a very good all round rugby league player and if he is leaving at the end of the year he's a huge loss.
A mention for Dwyer too. I've been really critical of him, and it's been fully deserved, but I thought he had a lot of success yesterday sniping around the ruck and I thought we looked more dangerous when he was on. He also managed to keep his dumb decisions and wild passed to a minimum.
Downsides. Tuimavave is having an awful season and Smith needs to have a real think about what to do with him. On form, when Sutcliffe is fit, it has to be him and Scott as the centres. So do you move Carlos into the back row, or drop him completely? The latter would be a bold call. Lane also continues to be a problem. He's offering nothing and is a weak leak defensively. The amount of times Trueman bails him out is crazy, it should be the other way around! Thank god he's such a good defender for a half.
A win is a win, but it's given us some things to think about. The important thing is that we once again dug deep and found a way to grind out a result. On to Cas.

| Agreed with the above. Trueman's tackle on Parcell was massive. Clifford made 2 huge tackles in the set after Satae offloaded from the kick off. Walker broke through and Clifford held him up brilliantly. Clifford and Trueman then smashed Luis Johnson a yard from the line in the same set.
Excellent defensive work by our halves
