We should put him in the halves with Tansey - it would be interesting if nothing else.

If that happened id be much happier about the forthcoming season

| Quote ="old_faithful"Sammut is not the answer IMO, and I hope Hull dont waste a quota space on a bloke whos looking to get back to the NRL at the first possible opportunity.
He was a very average full back at Penrith, and when they decided to move him into the halves, due to injury (and the emergance of Coote), he was very hit and miss. He does some great things, but he more than made up for that with plenty of dumb plays and a complete lack of organisational skills. He's very much an off the cuff type player, which aint what we need, I reckon.
I would much rather Hull go after Sammuts team mate, Michael Witt. He's a far better player. Looks very composed in the halves.'"
Agreed. Be nice if those adding 2 and 2 together based on us talking to Crusaders have got the wrong player and we sign Witt but if it is Sammut at least we may get some entertainment and I'd be happy with that short term after the rubbish served up last year.

I agree completely.
Regards Sammut the one thing often mentionned about Hull's attack is predicability and this is one thing Sammut cannot be accused of!
So late into pre season is not ideal and a tough start to the season may be unavoidable but I would be happy with both Sammut and Moore coming in.

| How on earth can fans think Sammutt would be wrong for us...he hasn't even had a training session with the lads (if signed) let alone played a game, this board gets more and more unbelievable now it is full of top scouts

I don't think people are saying he'd be wrong, just that if Long goes, an organiser in the halves is an absolute must and Sammut, exciting player though he is (and I'd love to see him at FC) is not that player. If Long and Berro go, though, even more cash freed up for Sammut and hopefully an organising 7, although where we'd get one from now is a puzzle. Whatever we do now, 2011 has to play 2nd fiddle to the long term half back strategy. I'd get Sammut in on a 2 year deal as he's only 23 to play 6 in 2011/12 with a loan signing at 7 if one is available to be replaced by a marquee 7 in 2012.

2008,2009,2010 AND 2011 have all played 2nd fiddle to the half back stratergy and if we want Sammutt then go and get the bugger....for 1 season he would do me....so what if he aint a organiser...we havent had one since Dykes and he never played so wont be a great loss...sooner see Sammutt do something off the cuff that play the $hite we offerd up last season.

No they haven't. I posted this week that our "strategy" for a decent half back partnership has essentially been non-existent - Head (crocked, short term deal), Dykes (crocked and at the end of career), Thorman (rubbish, on a 1 year deal), Long (crocked and at the end of career). All these partnered with Horne who has played less than 50% of games in the last 3 seasons through a combination of serious injury and illness, with our back-up in the halves being either hookers (Berrigan/Lee) or inexperienced utility backs like Tansey and Turner.
What I'm saying is that the worst thing that could happen now is for us to give the wrong player a 2 year deal and feck up a big opportunity in 2012 with many players OOC to get the right HB combination. I like Sammut as well, and what I said was I'd sign him on a 2 year deal and a 7 if one is available short term, then bring in a marquee 7 for 2012. What we don't want is to end up with a mid price 7 refusing to come on less than a 2 year deal then ending up with another poor set of options for 2012 recruitment. We've put all our eggs in the forwards basket IMO, time for a better balance. If that means a makeshift combination in 2011 but a genuine quality partnership for 2012, that would do me.

Thing is...if we are looking at a top class half back for 2012 then someone for a yr will do me and the likes of Sammutt wont come along too often for a years deal....also...if Eastmonds clears off to kick and clap,Sts may be looking for a 7 as well and i would sooner us snap up Sammutt than Sts.
If we do get him and he enjoys it here...then he may stay...id give him a yr with a yrs option......

Thats why Sammutt is ideal for a yr...he is more than a makeshift half to me and id play him instrad of Horne....if we can get Long and Sammutt on together with either Tansey or BJB and westerman as pivots as well...we could do some damage.....mind you...that is if Agar knows how to coach em to do damage

So Sammut would turn his back on the 2 years left on his deal at Crusaders to sign for one year at Hull.

Yes, but if he wants to leave early (as Berrigan did), then he might be released from the final year of his contract. So if he plans to leave ahead of the 2012 season anyway, there's no reason he wouldn't come to Hull for one year.

Hasnt he said he wants to back in 2012...so it may be ideal for him and us if that is the scenatio.
So why is it so funny....maybe he wants to have a stab at playing in a top class stadium in front of 13000 every other week and for a better team....at least he will get everything paid with us.

| We need to remember we will finally have a ball playing 13 in Westerman, also Tansey (hopefully he will be more consistent), Sammutt would be a good signing, let us be honest we signed possibly the best h/back this country has produced last year...where did that get us !! we managed to get a handful of games out of him!! so for me Sammutt is actually at this moment looking a better prospect!
I believe we will actually see more entertaining rugby next year.
