Good signing for you lot if Radford can sort out his temperament, when he was with us Cunningham didn't use him in the right way and never kicked on after that. At his best he will break through a tackle and provide a quality offload, always had a decent defence for me he still "a work in progress" player and he's got plenty of years to develop.

For me he is a second rower especially when he dropped a few kilos, very strong player though so he can be an emergency prop.

Something got to give with our great second row pairing Sika & Minni, I would like to see Tag in the back row, think he would be devastating.

Maybe we have made space, young players going out on loan for the year.

As far as I can tell from recent posts, the salary cap is calculated as the top 25 earners (whether they play or not) plus anyone else who plays (with minor exceptions for U21's).

That's why Cas wanted dispensation for Gale.

I'd imagine Logan will be in the top 25 as he's in year 4 of a 4 year contract.
If he leaves or is bought out, the player who is currently 26th in the earners will count in the cap.
I can't see that really making much difference to the cap total.

A big earner needs to leave or there is space on the cap. I reckon it's the latter.

Spending 90% of the cap still leaves £200k to play with. It doesn't make financial sense to squeeze every last drop out of the salary cap.

Or has also been suggested, Brisbane may be paying a lot of his salary.

And if it were a “marquee signing” is this money say for Savelio counted in the salary cap at present, or is it an extra budget.

More than likely, a £100k player here would earn the equivalent of £250k in the NRL, so they reduce their cap liability and a lot of their expenditure.

Not sure we can declare his cap space as what we're paying him, sounds like rule bending.

Lineham

A marquee player counts £150k on the cap (which is £2m for 2019).

Club trained players are £75k.

… you could have 4 players each earning £200k, two would add £150k to the cap and two would add £200k.

that would be a big chunk of the £2m cap

Leeds' 2 marquee players will have cost the other 23 "top earners" £6k each to fit under the cap.

As most will already be on contract, the rest will be on much poorer terms, or a cull is needed.

Here's another way of reducing the cap.

Assuming Danny Houghton is a "club trained" player, and earns £110k, for sake of argument.

Pay him another £40k, he becomes a marquee player, and our cap liability is reduced by £35k (£110k-£75k).

Daft I know, and money is no object.

Edit: not quite as simple as it seems - a player needs to earn at least £170k to have a nominal cap space of £150k or £75k, so the sums are still right, but the club would need to find an extra £60k in the example above.

Explains Perason's observation that a marquee player could be divisive.

Leeds have effectively had to lose 2 £60/70k players to make room and maintain there existing cap strategy.

And the money above £150k still has to found and payed out, on top of everything else.
