| Quote ="davey37"The kid is still only 22 years old and has had a couple of injury ravaged seasons. That is the worry. His injury record.
Plus we mess him about and stick him on the wing in a crucial cup tie with an out of confidence centre inside him.
Bet his confidence is shot right now.
There is a difference between a SL centre and a TOP SL centre. You don't think he will be either? Fair enough.
I think he will prove to be a decent SL centre akin to many playing in SL at the moment. That is given time and change of luck with injuries.'"
Unfortunately he's either been injured or average when playing for us. Players have to take their chance when given to them and he hasn't for whatever reason. If he makes it elsewhere in SL good luck to him but I've certainly not seen anything in his game that suggests he'll be a consistently good SL player for years to come. Could be wrong of course but he hasn't shown enough, for whatever reason, to be seen as a long term proposition for a side with supposed ambition.

I'd agree with that. It's a shame because I think he's shown glimpses of some ability, but the last thing we need is another inconsistent player who struggles to put in the required performances.

| I think arundel would be a decent player if he could string together enough injury free games. He's pretty quick and strong but needs to work on his defence but would probably improve with enough appearances but seems unlikely with his injuries

This is the thing. He has shown glimpses of ability.
But due to injury and the emergence of Crooks he hasn't been given a prolonged run in the team to build his confidence and consistency.
I think he is another player we are too quick to write off.
Time will tell.

You can apply that statement directly to Yeaman already though, in fact over the last two or three seasons in fact. He shows glimpses of his talent but is then quiet for much of a game or is just bang average throughout a season as he has been for a few years now. How many points/tries have been bombed because of his inability to put his winger away or other attacking mistakes?
If you are supposed to be treating players the same across the board I'd say that Arundal hasn't had a fair shout at all, whilst Yeaman in comparison has had very favourable treatment..I accpet of course that Arundal has been injured but nevertheless the imbalance is there for all to see except those that don't want to see it..

Yeamo is a decent grafting player imo, every team cant be full of world beaters, it needs the so called donkeys to do the graft so the stars can shine & take the praise.

Don't forget the service he was getting in the cooke era? So his game has been limited..he's a cracking defender...& has plenty of carries..won't be many to top his career at 1 club playing at the top level. Great servant to our club.

| At the end of the day, Kirk Yeaman will retire with hundreds of first team appearances, GB caps, 2 Dream Team selections, a Challenge Cup Winners medal, 4 major final appearances and something like the club's 5th all time try scorer. I'd guess if Sa arrives Sa will get into the side, but that Radford will pick the other centre from Yeaman and Crooks on form. I don't see any evidence this year that either Crooks or Arundel have been ripping up trees to the point where Yeaman's selection ahead of them is a travesty.

How many tries has he stopped with his defense. I agree with previous poster, Yeamo's form dropped (apart from that 1 season under Agar) when Cookie left. Cooke always threw the bullet pass missing out 1/2 defenders to yeamo and put him through.

| And Ryan Bailey has more medals and has GB appearances but is still just an above average performer..
Yeaman has done alright in spits and spats, a couple of seasons he was on fire, 2011 was good as well but at the end of the day right now & for the last 2.5 seasons he isn't good enough for a side that has aspirations of top 4, he wouldn't get a starting place in any of the top 8 sides at this moment in time.

His try return over a 13 years is 157 from 305, and his record of achievements as listed will be matched by few centres in the competition over their careers outside teams in the top 2. That's not speculation, it's a matter of fact. As to his current form or lack thereof, it's pretty clear to me that neither Crooks nor Arundel have warranted selection ahead of him in the first few games. If Sa comes in, he'll get picked, leaving Yeaman and Crooks to fight for the other centre spot. Whiting's days in the centres are over, so given the options and early season performances of the 3 centres at the club I'm not sure why people are mithering about Yeaman getting a game.

If you think I'm making a pro-Yeaman argument then you're barking up the wrong tree. I've been calling for him to be replaced for years. But there's no point replacing him with someone unless they're an upgrade, and right now it doesn't look like Arundel would be.

Exactly how I see it!
Had a mare against widnes and was called to be dropped, but coach publicly chastised him and following game was great! 1 thing about yeaman is he cares and you can see it in him when he knows he's made and error or had a bad one. You also know he'll make up for it or try his hardest the following week or even within a game! I'll always be happy to see that in my team unless as been said there's a better option, which there hasn't been!!

Yeaman hasn't been 'great' for a while. He's OK. Seems like a great bloke, but bang average as an SL standard centre.

| I was told recently Kirk he has not been well and has had a stomach problem which has not been well publicised. Although he is now getting treatment (or was last I heard) I think we should cut him some slack. He's black n white through and through and still one of the best defenders at the club.

| This season, if our right side had defended as well as our left side then we'd be unbeaten. Apart from the Widnes debacle. Obviously.
I know this is a transitional season and that we need to be trying out replacements for our older players but we still need to be winning games so that we have the luxury of trying people out. For me, Yeaman plays until we fix our defence as we can't afford to leak tries on both edges.

There's pretty much only been one 'amateur coach' calling for Yeaman to be dropped. Most everyone else agrees he's the best option at the moment, regardless of their opinion of him as a player.

If that is referring to me you have obviously failed to read and understand what I've written.
No-where have I said he (KY) should be dropped, I've said we should have got rid 2 seasons back, that Turner would have been the better option to keep, I've said Radford should be applying the same level of consistancy in picking/dropping players and that he won't be moving Yeaman either from the first 17 (certainly not for Arundal) or from the club..hope that makes my opinions clear.
